Something volcanic is simmering just below the surface in America and it won't take much to make it erupt and spread it's red hot political lava all over the landscape. Here's how Buchanan supporter Scott McConnell saw it( http://www.gopatgo.org): "After Seattle, the nation's politics seem pregnant with possibility. The elite consensus which wants Americans to buy and consume and not think too much about important questions looks suddenly shaky. Other issues may emerge as well. Perhaps immigration - where most Americans want a slowdown, and the Congress doesn't listen to them. Perhaps the hyper active foreign interventions supported by both Republican and Democratic elites, the folks who think American can solve every problem with force, or those who yearn for a new Cold War. Here, the elite hold on public opinion is even more tenuous than it is on trade. "After Seattle, it looks like real democracy may be starting up again." What that will do for the future of a free America depends on what happens next year when the nation goes to the polls to elect a president and congress, and that outcome could well be determined by how those concerned about the shredding of the Constitution conduct themselves between now and then. Let's begin with the Seattle demonstrations. It should be obvious that there are large numbers of Americans, representing a wide spectrum of the political and philosophical views of the public, have genuine concerns about the continuing diminution of our national sovereignty and the resulting march towards the heralded New World Order. What we are seeing is a realignment of political blocs so massive that the terms liberal and conservative no longer have any real meaning. Both liberals and conservatives are splitting into two camps - one camp fervently dedicated to globalism and a one-world supergovernment, and the other, a just as fervent determination to save the nation from being sucked into the New World Order. Seattle revealed this new alignment in the starkest terms. Forgetting the handful of window smashing wackos, the bulk of the demonstrators were from he left side of the political spectrum - labor union members, environmentalists, all allied in this campaign against globalism with Buchananite conservatives. The reaction of many on the right to Seattle - and to the World Trade Organization -was to label the foes of he WTO as "Luddites" implying that opposition to the elitist WTO bureaucracy is opposition to free trade, progress and the oncoming global economy. This is nonsense, and it is no less than a declaration of war against every conservative who sides with those who want American sovereignty over trade and everything else kept out of the hands of those who would submit the American people to a remote world government with not the slightest interest in the welfare of the American people. This split in the conservative ranks did not begin with Seattle. It became apparent during the war in Kosovo, when many on the right were appalled by the Clinton administrations totally unconstitutional bombing campaign, while other conservatives applauded US involvement and went so far as to urge the administration to launch a full-scale ground war against Yugoslavia. Pat Buchanan has spelled out his attitude towards global trade, and what he has to say gives the lie to the charges that those opposed to our present global trade policies are opposed to free trade, per se. Here's where Buchanan, and every other conservative and liberal who share his views stand: "The elitist architects of GATT and NAFTA have locked arms with their corporate cohorts to support a trade policy that is neither fair nor free. This year we will incur a $300 billion trade deficit. A fourth of our steel, a third of our autos, half our machine tools, and two-thirds of our textiles will be imported. America, once the world's greatest creditor, will once again be its greatest debtor. The bulls run wild on Wall Street, corporate profits boom, and CEOs ring up record salaries. But in Middle America, our industrial base is eroding, factories are closing, and manufacturing jobs are moving overseas. America's working men and women are being sacrificed to the Global Economy. Although our leaders seem deaf to their distress, their concerns are valid. "American workers have watched their wages shrink to 1973 levels. Manufacturing jobs comprise the smallest share of the labor force in 100 years. More mothers and wives are in the labor force than ever before in our history, but median family income still lags $1000 below where it was when Ronald Reagan left office. "As our industrial capacity slips, and America sacrifices her self- sufficiency, we become increasingly vulnerable to incompetence and corruption beyond our shores. In a Global Economy just one default from disaster, financial blunders from Mexico to Asia shake U.S. markets, put our nation's financial stability at risk, and lead to endless bailouts of our "trading partners." "As our independence falters, our sovereignty erodes. In 1994, for the first time, the U.S. joined a global institution, the World Trade Organization, where America has no veto power and the one-nation, one-vote rule applies. For America to continue down this road to global interdependence is a betrayal of our history and our heritage of liberty. "The time has come to wake up and realize that other nations do not believe in our brand of free trade. While we merrily open our markets, predatory partners like China and Japan each run up $60 billion surpluses at America's expense." So what exactly are Buchanan's ideas about global trade. I'll let him answer: "As President, I will: "Use the trade laws of this country and the power of my office to protect the jobs of our workers, the standard of living of America's families, the independence of our country, and the sovereignty of the United States. "Impose tariffs on cheap foreign imports-the same taxes imposed on goods made in the U.S.A.-and use the revenue to slash income taxes for all Americans. "Prioritize the American Economy before the Global Economy by withdrawing from international organizations that imperil our financial stability and economic independence. "Open foreign markets to American products by requiring reciprocal trade policies. "Protect vital American industries by passing tough anti-dumping legislation." Does that sound like a Luddite - or a patriot? Okay, so where does this all lead us? What do I mean when I say constitutionalists must unite or perish. Just this: Pat Buchanan is the only candidate for the presidency whose platform can save this nation from being gobbled up by the NWO litists -- the only candidate totally committed to preserving and protecting the Constitution of the United States -- and the only third party candidate who is electable. Given that fact, and the growing discomfort of Americans, left and right with the trend toward ceding our sovereignty to some global elite, the chance of a third party candidate actually winning the presidency is for the first time a genuine possibility -- IF -- and only IF - the three biggest third parties - the Constitution, Reform and Libertarian parties will unite behind him. That means agreeing to rallying around the Reform Party and a Buchanan candidacy, emphasizing what unites them and forgetting what small issues divide them. It's either that, or stand by and watch America lose our independence and our liberty. It's come down to that. Unite or Perish. Faugh 'a Ballagh! **COPYRIGHT NOTICE** In accordance with Title 17 U.
