Boogie Nights Director Outrages Los Angeles' Valley Dwellers

NIGHTS DIRECTOR OUTRAGES LOS ANGELES' VALLEY DWELLERS Real-life San Fernando
Valley dwellers are up in arms over TOM CRUISE's latest movie MAGNOLIA - which
claims to lift the lid on life in the Los Angeles community.
BOOGIE NIGHTS director PAUL THOMAS ANDERSON describes his movie
as "the epic, all-time great San Fernando Valley movie".
But far from thrilling residents by putting their home on the
map, valley folk are outraged to be depicted as depraved, foul- mouthed losers.
Local policeman TODD BOGART says, "We deal with a lot of
tragedy, death and destruction on the streets, but nothing like the kind of
personal tragedy this movie tried to portray in its characters.
"It was magnified 10 times from any kind of reality. It's
certainly not the Magnolia Boulevard I work on every day as a police officer. And
the language was extreme.
"This movie isn't about the valley, it's about the ugly side of
life anywhere in this country."
