-Caveat Lector- U.S. Temporarily Closes Canada Border Crossing WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Customs Service said on Saturday it temporarily closed a border crossing with Canada on New Year's Eve after a scanner detected a potentially explosive type of material in a vehicle bearing Canadian plates. The Customs Service closed the border crossing at Port Alexandria Bay, New York, at 9:30 p.m. EST ``to be on the safe side,'' but reopened it at 1 a.m. EST on Saturday after a further inspection revealed nothing troubling, said agency spokesman Barry Morrissey.
