This is typical of thoughtless speech. It is pretty awful. Still perhaps
it can be excused as just that--"thoughtless speech." People say some pretty
idiotic things when they are speaking extemp. What makes conservative speech
ugly is that it is very well thought out. Sometimes there is a glitch, like
Starr's office taking too long to give Linda her immunity, but basically one
can tell that every word and act is carefully planned for its effect on naive
listeners. They do try hard. I remember thinking they might put the
Clinton/Monica thing out in comic book form. They kept thinking that the
reason the American public was not convulsing was because they didn't
understand what was being said. Their opinion of the American public is
obviously not high. Prudy
