Maybe the banks got played. Maybe a bunch of clever, but unscrupulous
nerds, were paid $3 billion to spend six months fixing the problem and
three and a half years sitting around playing Duke Nukem except for when
somebody leaned in to check up on them at which time the hit a function
key that made the screen suddenly look like they were still working. In
which case, good for them. Banks, as my Grandma reminded me regularly
while I was growing up, are the Devil's embassies on earth.

No way that much money can change hands without some of it sticking to a
finger or two along the way. It would violate the basic laws of nature.
