About our logo
Doyon, Limited is one of the thirteen Native regional corporations
established by Congress under the terms of the Alaska Native Claims
Settlement Act (ANCSA).

With the land entitlement of 12.5 million acres, Doyon is the largest private
landowner in North America. Our lands extend from the Brooks Range on the
north to the Alaska Range on the south. The Alaska Canada border is our
eastern border and the western portion almost reaches the Norton Sound.
Voting shares of stock were originally issued to 9,061 Alaska Natives who had
a tie to our region. In March 1992, shareholders approved giving stock to
Native children born between 1971 and 1992, missed enrollees and Elders who
were age 65 by December 1992. Today we have nearly 14,000 shareholders. Our
headquarters are located in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Mission

Doyon's mission is to continually enhance our position as a financially
strong Native corporation in order to promote the economic and social
well-being of our shareholders and to assist in promoting and preserving the
cultural heritage and land base of our shareholders.

Family Press Release, 2/1/2000</A>

Press Release Fairbanks, February 1, 2000:

“It is a sad day for the Doyon region and a sad day for the state of Alaska,”
said Rosemarie Maher, President of Doyon, Limited.

The loss of Morris and Thelma Thompson and their eldest daughter, Sheryl,
came as a shocking blow to the corporation’s employees and shareholders
alike. Thompson, who until just last month was Doyon’s CEO and President,
brought the regional ANCSA Corporation from near bankruptcy in the early
1980’s to the 15th largest Alaska-based company before his retirement in
December.

“It was largely through Morris’ sheer force of will and incredible talents
that Doyon survived and then prospered,” said Mike Irwin, Chairman of Doyon,
Limited, “and it was Thelma and his three daughters along with his two
grandsons Christopher and Warren who gave him the grounding and the strength
needed to do what he did for our people.”

In gatherings held today at Doyon’s corporate headquarters and at the Chief
Peter John Tribal Hall, hundreds of people gathered to grieve their fallen
leader and his family members. Personal testimonials and prayers helped to
lift the spirits of those who came to remember Morris, Thelma and Sheryl.

“We know that there is a lot of interest throughout the state and even the
nation regarding funeral and other arrangements,” Maher said. “But in times
like this and considering the circumstances surrounding their deaths, many
questions will naturally remain unanswered for many more days. We hope that
the public and the press will remain patient as the family, especially Morris
and Thelma’s two surviving daughters, sort through the many details.”

Rosemarie Maher, President and Mike Irwin, Chairman of the Board of Doyon,
Limited held a press conference on February 2, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. at Doyon’s
corporate headquarters, 201 First Avenue, Suite 300, Fairbanks, Alaska.
