At the risk of seeming like an intellectual snob, I have to say that knowing
at least a little Latin helps greatly... Aspirin is "AcetylSALICylic Acid".
The emphasized part of the word, "SALIC", comes from Latin *salix*,
"willow". If you're ever out on a camping trip and find yourself with a
headache, you can chew on willow twigs to relieve it; and a poultice made of
willow bark is very good for injuries such as sprained ankles.
