Reinventing History By Chuck Baldwin February 9, 2000 For more than a half-century now, liberal activists have forced their polluted version of history upon a sleepy and unsuspecting public. The result: the sacred symbols of Christianity have been expunged from public property. The cross was the first to go. Shortly afterward, manger scenes came down. Christian symbols of every kind were stripped from city seals and county court houses. Any vestige of the old Christian republic was brought into disrepute. Now, liberals have set their sights on the symbols of the old Confederacy. The Confederate Battle Flag is currently in the crosshairs. State and local governments throughout the South are the targets of intense pressure to lower the old ensign. The Confederate Battle Flag no more represents racism and bigotry than the Christian cross violates the First Amendment. Both accusations are an insult to history. Only after 50 years of history revisionism could either assertion be given any serious consideration. Slavery was never a race issue and was certainly not the invention of the Old South! In fact, it was the Stars and Stripes, not the Stars and Bars or Confederate Battle Flag, that flew over the American slave ships. It was the Stars and Stripes that flew over the Supreme Court building when the infamous Dred Scott decision was handed down. Will liberals’ next demand be that the Stars and Stripes come down? Don’t be surprised. When Clinton and Gore first took office they promised to "reinvent government." They have been reinventing a lot of things ever since. Not the least of which is American history. Clinton and his cronies have been apologizing for America’s Founding Fathers and founding principles at every opportunity. To demonize Southern culture and history is a crime against truth and decency! Southern people have done most of the fighting, most of the bleeding and most of the dying for these United States since before 1776. It was Southern culture that evangelized this country with the Christian gospel. America’s black Christians today owe their faith to Southern culture! America’s gentility, hospitality, grace and courtesy are mostly rooted in Southern culture. Black people in 1860 were treated better in Atlanta than in Chicago. That was true in 1960. That is true today! People need to realize that this attempt to extirpate American history is the precursor to conquest. A nation that loses its past has no future! The retention of our sacred and historic symbols is a vital part of our national heritage. Without them, we are reduced to the whims of ignoble ingrates, who want to replace our proud Christian past with a society void of faith or virtue.
