1) Genetic Modification Is A Natural Process, Borlaug Says

Norman Borlaug has a point to insert into the debate over genetically
modified foods: Ordinary leavened bread is made from wheat that carries the
genes of three plant species. And the genetic engineering didn't happen in
the past decade or even the past millennium. Nature spliced the genes before
the rise of the Roman Empire.

2) ADM Will Accept Biotechnology Improved Crops At Elevators

Archer-Daniels-Midland Company realizes the ultimate decision in seed
selection rests with our farmer suppliers. We also believe we can help
maximize the value of these crops by some simple rules. At our processing
facilities, ADM will accept all corn and soybean varieties approved by the
appropriate officials in the U.S., Europe and other export markets. At our
grain elevators, we will accept all biotech corn and soybean varieties
meeting our standard specifications and help find markets for these crops.
This includes current as well as new crop plantings.

3) Let's Not Ignore Sound Science (by Senator Richard Lugar)

Galileo, if he is looking down from the heavens as he once gazed up at them,
must find the current public discussion of the emerging science of
biotechnology uncomfortably familiar. Myth, rather than scientific fact, has
come to predominate the debate.

4) Combating Pathological Opposition To Gene Splicing (Chronicle of Higher
Education)

Efforts by antitechnology extremists to stop the field testing and use of
gene-spliced plants and other organisms are a serious threat to research.
The extremists claim that gene splicing -- a technique that introduces
genetic material from one organism into another -- produces organisms that
could harm the environment or people who consume materials from the
organisms. Scientists disagree.
