To be fair to Bill, I am sure he does not mean to lump ALL of Chiropractic in with his
idea of junk science (in which he WOULD place ALL of Homeopathy I think). He has
addressed this issue before and would probably say he does not think there is any
validitiy to some of the more radical treatments espoused by SOME Chiropractors, like
correspondence (which is related to reflexology, iridology, and other unorthodox
treatment regimens). Chriopractic, in the sense of spinal, and muscular manipulation
for the relief of pain and discomfort is a valuable and effective treatment method,
IMO.
Another point brought up here is the idea that the medical establishment is most
concerned, today, with getting you, the patient, out of their hair as quick as
possible, thus the PILL is the first form of treatment. Medication is pushed, whether
it is the BEST or even a NECESSARY treatment or not.
Here is a medical conspiracy (which has a parallel in the Police-drug
forfeiture-policy). Pharmaceutical companies subsidize doctors to get them to
prescribe their medicine, the medicine is accepted as THE STANDARD treatment, thus
getting the pharmaceutical company more money, enabling them to make more drugs, that
are pushed on people. There is a clear conflict of interest that apparently bothers
no one. In the old days a doctor might give someone a sugar pill in order to try and
alleviate a problem they could find no organic cause for, and guess what, sometimes it
did the trick. Nowadays that same doctor would probably prescribe Prozac or some
other powerful drug thinking the person was suffering from some undifferentiated
depression. Medication as a first course of action is the problem, and the use of
powerful chemical agents which profoundly affect the body in many ways as opposed to
less potentially deadly treatments, like Chiropractic manipulation, or herbal
treatments, etc.
If the doctors and drug companies can make no money from it they will never accept any
treatment as valid, it is that simple.
