Daniel, I refuse to comment on your files, because I have no personal
knowledge of them (nor do I want any). However, as you frequently do, you
have piqued my curiosity about the late Judge Leander Perez and his
connections, vel non, with the late Adler Berriman Seal.

As a tender lad of 13, me Pappy bought a bowling alley in Plaquemines Parish,
and converted the same into a furniture store. (For the benefit of the rest
of the list, Plaquemines [pronounced plack'-a-min] Parish is the Louisiana
county that contains the mouth of the Mississippi River, and sticks out into
the Gulf of Mexico. It is one of the most oil-rich areas in the world.

For years, Leander Perez, a very crooked state district court judge,
literally controlled politics in Plaquemines Parish. And controlling politics
meant dictating which oil companies could drill where. Perez formed a
coalition with oyster fishermen in the predominantly Serbian parish. The main
representative of the fishermen was Russell Stepelkovich. Russell would place
buoys and traps all over the marsh, to indicate which oyster beds were his.
Local law forbade placement of oil-drilling rigs in marked oyster beds, so
between Russell and Leander, they had the place sewn up.

Leander let it be known that his services were for sale, as did Stepelkovich
(by the way, Stepelkovich's daughter, Pam, was my first true love --- God she
was beautiful). Eventually, through a coalition with Carlos Marcello (who had
a hunting and fishing camp in the Plaquemines Parish marsh), the parish
became a center for drug-smuggling activity.

Enter on the scene, our mutual friend Herb Graves. That marsh is where Barry
Seal allegedly dumped the body of one of his lackies. I'll just call him
"Joe" for grins. Seal is said to have threatened Graves by telling him, "You
don't want end up like Joe, do you?"

Anyhow, the plot is definitely thickening.
