-Caveat Lector- -Cui Bono?- WJPBR Email News List [EMAIL PROTECTED] Peace at any cost is a prelude to war! *********************** Clinton Countdown Today is March 29, 2000. Still 298 days before Janet Reno is replaced by someone who’s actually competent at the Department of Justice. ***************** Hitting ‘Em Where They Breathe “’I recently received your request for contributions,’ David Rollo writes in a letter to House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R). ‘I would really like to contribute to these noble efforts, but am unable to at this time due to the recent increase in gasoline prices. I was greatly dismayed to learn through numerous media sources that my Republican Party did not believe in repealing the 'Clinton Gas Tax' since it was 'so small and would not make a big difference' to most American families. I am sure you will understand when I inform you that I was planning on contributing the minimum of 'even $25' you requested until I applied your logic and realized this amount is so small it won't make a big difference in your efforts.’" - John McCaslin’s “Inside the Beltway,” 3/28/00 **************** The More Things Change in Clinton White House... “If it seems impossible to reach the end of the scandals of the Clinton White House, it may be not just because there are so many of them, but because the administration's penchant for concealing, stonewalling and obstructing is so all-encompassing that it has become scandalous all in itself. We all remember how billing records from Hillary Clinton's law firm conveniently ‘disappeared’ when subpoenaed by prosecutors looking into the Whitewater land deal --- only to turn up, to everyone's fevered claims of surprise, lying openly on a table in the White House living quarters more than two years later. “Now it looks like deja vu all over again, with the disclosure that thousands of e-mail messages to the White House, and many others sent and received by Vice President Al Gore, were not turned over to investigators from Congress, the Justice Department and the independent counsel's office as far back as 1996. The original reason is said to have been computer glitches that caused the messages not to be archived, as they were supposed to be --- but the scandal is that White House officials knew about the problem in early 1998, but somehow didn't think to mention it to investigators at the time.” - Atlanta Journal-Constitution editorial, 3/28/00 **************** Gore, Bush Not Sharpest Knives in the Drawer “Got mediocre grades in college even though you took easy courses? Coasted through those four years drinking and smoking and acting like a jock, even though it was costing your parents a small fortune? Wonder what you can say to make it up to them today? Well, tell them you can still become ... president of the United States! It now seems clear that no matter whether George W. Bush or Al Gore wins this November, America is going to get an underachiever at its helm. Though both men want to be known as the ‘education’ president, a review of their grades reveals they barely got one. “We have known for several months that Bush largely partied his way through Yale – in four years, he never got an A – but that is not the bad news. The bad news, as Jay Leno joked, is that Bush may be the smart one. As the Washington Post revealed last week in expanding on a new biography of Gore by Bill Turque, Gore's grades in his sophomore year at Harvard were lower than any semester Bush spent at Yale. Gore got a D, one C minus, two C pluses, and one B minus. As the Post noted, this was the year Gore spent ‘shooting pool, watching television, eating hamburgers, and occasionally smoking marijuana.’ And the vice president, who now so closely identifies with the high-tech revolution that he momentarily forgot that he didn't invent it, never took a single math course in four years.” - U.S. News & World Report, 4/3/00 ***************** Of Snakes and Clinton “Let me begin with a story. It's the story that's been told before but bears repeating. It's the story of a man who, while walking down a dirt path, encountered a snake. The snake had somehow been injured and pleaded with the man to help him. The man shook his head and said, ‘I'm not going to touch you. You're a snake and you'll bite me’ - to which the snake promised that he wouldn't bite him but he really needed his help. So the man reached down, picked up the snake and proceeded to treat his injuries when all of a sudden, the snake lashed out and bit him! Stunned, the man exclaimed, ‘You promised that if I helped you that you wouldn't bite me and you bit me anyway!’ To which the snake replied, ‘Why are you so surprised? You knew very well what I was when you picked me up.’ Let's say the man in this story is actually U.S. gun manufacturers and the snake is the Clinton Administration. That being the case, you should now have an accurate picture of what the latest story is on our Second Amendment rights in America.” - Lisa Dean, Free Congress Foundation, 3/28/00 **************** Anointments Don’t Sit Well With GOP Grassroots “There is, fairly or not, the sense that Al Gore and George Bush are where they are not because of who they are but because of who Dad and Granddad were. ...More importantly, [there] ... may also be a reaction to the perceived anointing of Gov. Bush as nominee long before the primary season began. The Ronald Reagan Republican party is a bottom up, grassroots party. Unlike the Democrats, it is not a top down, elite cadre machine. Republican candidates are expected to pay dues and earn their stripes and garner support the old fashioned way -- by working hard for it. The anointing of Gov. Bush, like Bob Dole before him, goes down uneasily with grassroots Republicans who feel the party is theirs, not the property of some Washington elite group of businessmen and lawyers." - Peter Roff, Federalist Brief, 3/28/00 ***************** Rogich to the Rescue? According to a New York Times story this week, G.W. Bush’s campaign is getting behind-the-scenes advice from Las Vegas spin doctor Sig Rogich ... one of the behind-the-scenes guru’s who helped craft that pathetic GOP response to Bill Clinton’s State of the Union address earlier this year. Rogich has close ties to the Bush family and was said to be instrumental in the failed strategies that doomed senior Bush’s re-election effort in 1992. Locally, Rogich is known for his love of the political “mushy middle”, his close ties to organized labor, and his penchant for helping to elect almost as many Democrat candidates as Republicans. A true believer he’s not. He’s also currently embroiled in a local zoning squabble as he seeks a liquor license for a building he owns so it can be converted into a topless nightclub and nudie bar. Rogich was also hired a few years back to do some “image repair” for Mike Tyson after Tyson mistook Evander Holyfield’s ear for a buffet during that Las Vegas boxing fiasco. G.W., you might want to think twice before bringing this guy into your strategic inner circle. ******************** Help Spread the Word If you know someone who does not receive our FREE News & Views briefings, send their e-mail address to [EMAIL PROTECTED] (NOTE: Under Bill s.1618 TITLE III passed by the 105th U.S. Congress, political e-newsletters such as this cannot be considered spam as long as the sender includes contact information and a method of removal - which we do.
