April 15 ( the deadline for " voluntary " taxation )2000, Washington DC on Saturday late afternoon was sparsely populated by demonstrators, but was densely occupied by police and a wide variety of " types " in suits with buzz cuts, who were coolly talking into cell phones and up their selves. They looked deadly serious and " in charge " as they peered over the throng of tens of demonstrators which at this point in time they outnumbered. The people gathering at the police barricades were diverse. Gray haired activists, students, and a lot of clean cut middle class Washingtonians and others who are downright pissed off about Banking and corporate power. People are talking about abolishing or severely modifying the Capitalist economic system which is represented by the World Bank and the I.M.F. NO ONE who I spoke to was interested in tweaking the system to be more caring and fair. I point this out because you don't see this in the media. The Media are highlighting the Liberal unions, and the elite environmental organizations which somehow have difficulty understanding that if workers don't own their corporation, they have no real power. The Liberal Enviros are ridiculous looking in how they ride the fence. Capitalism is THE driving force behind environmental destruction. Anyone who does not discuss that issue is trying to hide an elephant under their jacket. The organizers of the demonstration have called for people to be at the barricades at 06:00 hours. They think that the security people will try to get the WB delegates in early at some thinly manned point in the expanse of barricades. I believe the security people will succeed. The question then becomes_ what will the demonstrators do? Will they go on with the theater and educational aspects of the demonstration, or will they become frustrated and angry? I met quite a few young students who were intent on stopping the World Bank delegates as they did in Seattle to the WTO's delegates. This after all is the real demonstration of mass power. The rest is just blowing off steam. Blowing off steam favors the status quo. It does nothing effective, and siphons off motivation and energy. The representatives to the World Bank have some serious business to discuss in the wake of Friday's long anticipated bubble buster. The big boys are in no mood for playing games while Wall Street is crashing. On the other hand, one more blow to the New World Order while Wall Street is bleeding, may just be the coup de gras.
