It seems to me that this operation was handled as a hostage rescue...which
it was. And more than that, it was a *successful* hostage rescue--a minimum
of violence, no casualties on either side, a smooth and rapid extraction of
the child from the house. The White House appropriately left the situation
in the hands of the Attorney General; she negotiated far longer than she
legally needed to; and she acted only when her patience was completely
exhausted. The disingenuous proclamations of outrage by the Cuban exiles and
anti-Clintonistas are completely absurd hypocrisy, especially when they come
from people who have pursued a cynical vision of "family values."
