Other than their own word for it, what proof do we have that's what
happened? Isn't it far more likely that traffic was not 10, but 100 or
even 1000 times over normal, that the server was simply swamped because
the sysops hadn't been ready for it, and they are blaming hackers for
their own short sightedness? Hackers make convenient scapegoats, but
Occam's Razor says we should look for simpler explanations whenever
possible. It makes far more sense that the sysops screwed up than hackers
are to blame.
