Peace at any cost is a prelude to war!
Dear Brigade,
Bush said he would seek ''fast-track'' negotiating status from Congress to
expand free trade in the Western Hemisphere -- something President Clinton
also has been seeking ... ''As president, I will work to create an entire
hemisphere in free trade,'' he said. ''I will work to extend the benefits of
NAFTA from the northernmost Alaska to the tip of Cape Horn.... As
president, Governor Bush will work to open the China market...''
Due to the anti-Clinton forces in the GOP and pro-American worker
supporters in the Democrat party, Clinton has been unable to get much of
his trade agenda passed including Fast Track, MFN-PNTR for China; NAFTA
expansion; etc. The article below should be a clear wake-up call to all who
are fighting for sovereignty and American workers.
If Bush manages to win the election he will take up the mantle and
spearhead Clinton's trade agenda into the next congress -- and there will be
no one standing in his way.
GO PAT GO!!!!!!!!

Bush Helps Dedicate Border Bridge
By KELLEY SHANNON, Associated Press Writer
NUEVO LAREDO, Mexico (AP) -- Texas Gov. George W. Bush used a quick
trip to Mexico to argue strongly for open trade while highlighting his
connections to Mexican President Ernesto Zedillo.
Bush, the putative Republican presidential nominee, appeared with Zedillo on
Monday to dedicate a $128 million international bridge linking Laredo, Texas,
and Nuevo Laredo, Mexico.
''Mr. President, it's always an honor to be in your presence,'' Bush said to
Zedillo. He reminded the audience that he appeared with Zedillo seven
months ago to dedicate an international bridge at Eagle Pass, Texas.
Bush said he would seek ''fast-track'' negotiating status from Congress to
expand free trade in the Western Hemisphere -- something President Clinton
also has been seeking.
''As president, I will work to create an entire hemisphere in free trade,''
he
said. ''I will work to extend the benefits of NAFTA from the northernmost
Alaska to the tip of Cape Horn.''
While Bush's Democratic presidential opponent, Vice President Al Gore,
supports more open trade, the administration has faced strong opposition
within its own party, especially from labor organizations concerned about
workers' rights and the possibility of losing jobs to foreign countries.
The Texas governor spoke a bit of Spanish to welcome the mostly Mexican
crowd. Then he said he wanted to build on the North American Free Trade
Agreement to bring other countries throughout Latin America under a free
trade umbrella.
Clinton has unsuccessfully sought from Congress the negotiating authority
he would need to achieve the same objective. Clinton pushed NAFTA through
Congress in 1993 with widespread Republican support over opposition from
labor and many Democrats.
Laredo, Texas, just across the Rio Grande, is the largest inland port in the
United States. The city has nearly doubled in population in the past decade,
mostly because of the trade generated because of the free trade agreement.
The new World Trade Bridge is the fourth international bridge connecting
Laredo and Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. Local, state and federal governments in
the United States contributed a total of $107.3 million to the bridge.
The cargo-only bridge took six years to complete. It was designed to handle
commercial traffic between Mexico and the United States and to alleviate
heavy truck traffic -- some days totaling up to 10,000 trucks per day -- over
downtown bridges.
Throughout his presidential campaign Bush has touted his experience in
dealing with Mexico. He said $200 billion in goods are traded each year
between the United States and Mexico and half of all U.S. exports to Mexico
travel through Texas.
Zedillo, speaking in Spanish, described Bush as a friend of Mexico, saying
the governor had ''a profound appreciation for our people and our culture.''
Zedillo also said Mexico has a friend in Clinton.
Meanwhile, the Bush campaign distributed a policy statement that said he
supports admission of China and Taiwan to the World Trade Organization.
''As president, Governor Bush will work to open the China market -- and other
key export markets -- for America's farmers and ranchers,'' the campaign
statement said.
Bush is expected to elaborate on his trade positions later in the spring.
The visit to Nuevo Laredo was Bush's sixth meeting with Zedillo since
becoming governor in 1995.
