If only it could be so.
In reality, one group of thugs will simply be replaced
by another group of thugs.
Every 4 years, We the People get to blow off some
steam and "throw the rascals out".
But have you noticed that nothing of significance
changes? The government keeps on growing
and usurping powers in violation of the Constitution.
The people continue losing personal freedoms.
The total tax burden does not decrease, meaning
that the government, at all levels, takes about half
of everything you earn.
Our national political system is very much like
professional wrestling. Some play the roles of
"good guys". Some play "bad guys".
They pretend to be enemies. They say bad things
about each other. They would have us believe
that they really don't like each other and they have
serious political disagreements.
It's just a big act.
They go out and drink and party together, and laugh
at those who believe it is real.
Elections are only "safety valves".
So when the people are fed up and angry with
their "leaders", they can go to the polls and
throw the bums out of office.
The people have the temporary comforting illusion
that they have done something to change things.
It's the game the two major parties (in reality only
one party) have been playing for a very long time
and the people never seem to catch on to it.
