Dear Brigade,

"The bottom line is, Pat Buchanan is greeted by cheers and jeers
because Pat stands tall and unafraid. He speaks without deception. He
rolls up his sleeves, rears back and delivers not left hooks, not low
blows, just hard and fast stiff rights to the liberal jaw. Blows that so

Pat Buchanan: The True Republican Candidate
by Steve Farrell - [EMAIL PROTECTED]
NewsMax -- May 2, 2000

If presidential candidates were elected according to the passion they
invoke in people, we could call the election off now, because no one
brings folks' blood to a boil quicker than Patrick J. Buchanan, and
everyone knows it.

You’d have to be suffering from a case of “I-Am-an-Island” syndrome not
to know the “Emotional Response” vote belongs to no one else. Pat
elicits passion, and plenty of it. No, not because Pat is a rabble rouser,
as his enemies charge. Yes, because Pat Buchanan is what every one
of his opponents are not: a statesman.

His words are power packed, his message is from the heart, his
language is magnificent, his arguments are filled with principles,
common sense, faith and hope - and untypical of the members of the
party from which he bolted, he is not a man incessantly in transition,
who shape-shifts with every CBS/ABC/NBC poll.

The bottom line is, Pat Buchanan is greeted by cheers and jeers
because Pat stands tall and unafraid. He speaks without deception. He
rolls up his sleeves, rears back and delivers not left hooks, not low
blows, just hard and fast stiff rights to the liberal jaw. Blows that so
effectively rattle the cage of the media, academia and the establishment
that the only way they feel they can defeat Pat Buchanan is to disqualify
him from the ring.

Their tactic is multifaceted:

First, never answer Pat’s arguments, instead take obscure quotes of his
out of context and repackage them to indicate prejudice, hatred,
narrowness, fanaticism and ignorance.

Second, when Pat uses federal election funds, accuse him of being a
political scavenger. Fail to mention, however, in the same breadth that all
the other candidates use them too, and in far greater amounts, and that
nobody accuses them of launching their careers on the back of the
taxpayers.

Third, when Pat sticks to his principles, accuse him of not appealing to a
wide enough audience. Then, when Pat builds coalitions, accuse him of
abandoning his principles.

Fourth, politically use the Federal Communications Commission to
violate its founding principles of protecting balance in the media, in order
to foster the socialist agenda of sustaining the status quo. How so?
Unconstitutionally outlaw the right of a third-party candidate to participate
in the televised presidential debates, effectively enacting an arbitrary rule
to disqualify minorities from the debate, especially those minorities who
are Christians, Constitutionalists and unashamed America First Patriots.

Fifth, after all this has been accomplished, summarily ignore Pat
Buchanan as a political pariah, one unworthy of passing comment.

This strategy - though deeply dishonest, hypocritical, un-Republican and,
on the issue of the FCC rule, unconstitutional - has thus far succeeded
in alienating Pat Buchanan from the debate.

But, Pat is not out for the count, not by a long shot.

Pat Buchanan’s popularity and candidacy may yet very well soar to
unexpected heights, thanks to one factor: the out-and-out pusillanimous
nature of the Republican Party.

The more radical the Clinton administration gets, the more tolerant, it
seems, the Republican response to the criminal legacy of that
administration grows, the more Pat Buchanan looms on the horizon of
time as a truth teller, as a rare-breed candidate and possibly as the
founder of a future mass exodus of conservatives from the Republican
Party.

Pat, in all sincerity, told us months ago that he wasn’t leaving the
Republican Party but that it was the party, intent on disregarding its own
platform, that abandoned him.

Almost everyone severely censored Pat Buchanan for those words and
his choice to leave and run against his former friends. But every day,
every moment, every hour since then, it becomes clearer that Pat was
right. The Republican Party, with few notable exceptions, no longer
defends the values it claims to uphold. At every turn Republican leaders
do little more than go through the motions of upholding party principles,
the Constitution and the rule of law, against the most corrupt and
dangerous administration in the history of this country. At every turn,
they quietly back down, cover up and get in step with Bill Clinton, the
teeter-totter whims of the people manifest in clever polls, and with their
real boss, the liberal media.

George W. Bush’s marching orders to his Republican soul mates in
Congress to back off their investigation of the Clinton-Reno communist-
style raid in the night of Elian Gonzalez’s relatives' home, for no better
reason than “it is a political loser,” is but one more page of evidence of
just how low the Republican Party has stooped and will yet stoop to put
political power, not principle, first.

All Republicans ought to ask themselves just how many illegal,
unconstitutional and treasonous acts by the Clinton administration will
their party endure before inaction bellows complicity. They ought to look
at the kowtowing, too, to federal education bills, to gun control,
internationalism, to national defense issues and to the disavowal of free
Taiwan.

They might remember that it was Republican George Bush senior who
was the U.N. ambassador who failed to use his absolute veto power
when Taiwan was booted out of the United Nations Security Council and
the United Nations, in favor of admitting blood-drenched Red China into
the same two bodies.

The Republican Party criticizes the Clinton One China policy, when it
was the Republicans who started the problem and who now still do
nothing but blow out hot air on the issue.

Pat Buchanan was right. He did not abandoned the party cause, it was
the Republican Party leadership which did that, long ago. And inasmuch
as the Republican Party is intent on aggressively proving Pat right - and
rebuking the conservative and Christian wing of its party, it looks like a
vote for the Reform Party’s best, Pat Buchanan, is a vote for the only
true conservative, the only true Republican and the only true American in
the race.

The Republican Party’s betrayal of its own principles may yet lead the
Buchanan camp to shake, rattle and roll all over the political landscape.
All that is necessary is for a few influential conservatives to stand
courageously beside the man who ever stood by them, vigorously grab
hold of the nearest megaphone and spiritedly sound the Buchanan
brigade’s battle charge: “Let the exodus begin!”
