We seem to have a problem. The dumbest recruit to our military service, no
matter what branch of service; the dumbest person hired to work for the
Government, no matter where that service will be, can tell you that the first
thing they are told (almost to a man/woman) is that YOU MUST NEVER DISCUSS
CLASSIFIED ON THE TELEPHONE.
Shortly after that ridiculous incident in which a Florida couple recorded
Newt Gingrich's telephone call, a call which many can receive not only on
their car radios but their baby monitors, I was amazed that a supposedly
intelligent individual from inside the beltway could think any phone call was
private; so I called my own representative and asked the guy who answered his
office phone if he had ever been briefed that "you must never discuss
classified on a telephone." It was all new to him.
Yes, there supposedly is such a thing as a "secure" phone line, but they are
sure scarce. Just what could our Congress think the Russian fishing
trawlers were doing that laid off the coast of Okinawa for years and years?
Apparently they thought they were fishing. The Russians had a steel plant in
southern Turkey (near Iskinderun) that was the only steel plant I've ever
seen with microwave antennae.
For years I've been concerned that our CIA, FBI and ATF (not to mention the
DoD and the DoE) were not up to speed in their operations. Now I discover
that no one in Congress seems to have been briefed on security procedures. I
guess I should quit worrying about Mr. Deutch sharing our most secret matters
with Israel. Maybe we should just hire the Moussad. I like their
efficiency, and I'll bet that kindergarten children in Israel know better
than to discuss classified on the telephone. Prudy
