UN to deploy troops in Lebanon
The United Nations Middle East representative, Terje Larsen, has said the UN
was ready to deploy peacekeepers in southern Lebanon after Israel withdraws its
troops from the area.
Mr Larsen was speaking after meeting the Secretary-general of the Arab League,
Esmat Abdel-Meguid, in Egypt.
The League has demanded that Israel's withdrawal should be complete,
unconditional and swift.
Mr Larsen arrived in Cairo on Monday after visiting Israel, Lebanon and Syria.
He's assessing the UN's role in Lebanon once Israel has withdrawn from the
south of the country.
