I agree. And the hysteria about schools as places where our kids risk
getting gunned down is bogus, too. Gun-related deaths in schools were down
40% during 1998-99 compared to the previous year, and the '98-99 figure
included the deaths attributed to the Columbine incident (Reuters: "U.S.
Youth Violence Down Despite Public Perception," April 12, 2000.)
The fear is up, the violence is down. And the agenda here is to institute
police-state measures in schools, using "concerns about safety" as the
motivation.
Area schools have begun doing Code Blue drills. In this drill, kids get
down on the floor when they hear "Code Blue" on the intercom and teachers are
instructed to lock all doors -- all this in preparation for the possibility
of armed gunmen entering the school building a la Columbine.
The lead article in our newspaper this AM is about what many schools in
the area are doing to "promote prom safety." All students receive
breathalizer tests upon entering the prom room. They are searched with metal
detectors, their student ID's badges are checked, they are in lock-down until
the prom is over, and several chaperones are present to "watch" student
behavior.
Some schools are requiring that dates brought to the prom from outside
the school be pre-approved by administration. Students fill out an
application on the proposed date and in some cases, the parents are contacted.
I am terribly opposed to these measures, yet am fully aware that any
school successfully and openly resisting these tactics is at higher risk for
being put on the shadow government's list of possible sites for the next
staged incident.
