Do mandatory vaccines contribute to health, or to wealth?

"The Clinton Administration has floated plans to gut the federal trust
fund that compensates the families of children who are injured or killed
by reactions to vaccines," reports Phyllis Schlafly of Eagle Forum.
"Health and Human Services Secretary Donna Shalala may recommend that a
large portion of the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program's $1.4
billion trust be turned over to vaccine research. That," says Mrs.
Schlafly, "would be a cruel betrayal of the parents who financed this
trust with a 75-cents-per-dose assessment on vaccines."
Mrs. Schlafly points out that the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System
"received 11,000 complaints last year from doctors or patients, but the
Clinton Administration has made it more and more difficult for parents
to get any compensation. Since most children today get up to 33
immunizations before they can be admitted to public school," she
observes, "parents are starting to wonder which is the greater risk:
getting injuries from the disease, or injuries from the vaccine?"
Mrs. Schlafly acknowledges that "adults are free to assume risk for
reasons of their own," but insists that "risk is not something that
government, in a free society, should ordinarily force people to
accept." She notes that the Association of American Physicians and
Surgeons has written to Secretary Shalala charging that "federal vaccine
policy results in the violation of informed consent, and is based on
incomplete studies of efficacy and potential adverse effects of the
vaccines."
Schlafly emphasizes that these adverse effects include "not only
immediate reactions to the vaccines, such as seizures and even death,
but also possible long-term effects from damage to a child's immune
system." She calls for "an independent study to discover if there is a
relationship between vaccines and the dramatic increases in autism and
asthma."
Schlafly suspects a financial motive for the mandating of vaccinations.
Noting that the Department of Defense mandated anthrax vaccinations for
all 2.4 million service personnel last year, she asks, "Who is profiting
from this gigantic vaccine mandate? The Pentagon agreed to pay $10.64
per dose to the BioPort Corporation," Schlafly remarks, "even though the
contractual obligation was only $4.36 per dose."
She wonders if that decision could have been influenced by retired
Admiral William Crowe Jr.'s 13-percent share in BioPort.
Like spectators at a limbo match, we watch Bill Clinton from the crowd
and ask out loud, "How low can he go?" Would he risk the health and the
very lives of millions of American soldiers and millions of American
infants by subjecting them to unnecessary vaccines -- just to enrich his
donors and cronies? You know he would.
This man has no scruples. This is, after all, the same man who as
governor of Arkansas wittingly allowed tainted blood from the state
prison population to be sold to health facilities across our northern
border, where it infected scores of Canadian hemophiliacs with HIV and
hepatitis C. How low can he go? There's a threshold for even the most
limber limbo dancer, but not for Bill Clinton.
