I've never heard of early onset puberty in children who were breast
fed. There are some hormones in mother's milk, but they stimulate
normal development of various body systems. Amazing that every year or
so they keep having to add something to formula to get it closer to
mother's milk. I can think of a heck of a lot better ways to spend
$2000 -- the cost of bottle feeding a baby for a year: formula,
bottles, bottle brushes, extra dish soap, extra bibs (formula spit up
permanently stains clothes), extra energy to heat the bottles and
sterilize them, and extra doctor bills. More if you buy bottled water
to mix the formula. If you buy ready-made formula, you're paying $5 a
QUART for what is 98% water. For less than half the cost of bottle
feeding, a mother can eat more calories, and eat a balanced diet, and
give her baby a far better start by nursing. And it cuts deep into the
profits of the predatory pharmaceutical companies who push formula.
