[ SENDER'S NOTE - "The more homosexuals can get special protections signed
into law, the more confidence they obtain in trying to silence
Bible believing churches and individuals." ]

SENATORS PASS ANTI-CHRISTIAN HATE CRIME BILL

On Tuesday, June 20, the U.S. Senate approved two hate crime amendments to
the Defense Authorization bill, S. 2549. The amendment offered by Senator
Ted Kennedy (D-MA) passed by a vote of 57 to 42, and Senator Orrin Hatch's
(R-UT) amendment passed by a vote of 50-49.

Senator Ted Kennedy's hate crime amendment creates special victim categories
for homosexuals and even transsexuals (Cross-dressers, drag queens, etc).
The more homosexuals can get special protections signed into law, the more
confidence they obtain in trying to silence Bible believing churches and
individuals. Passing this Hate Crime legislation in the Senate is just one
more step that the homosexuals have won in their vigorous attempts to bring
homosexuality into mainstream America for approval and acceptance. This
agenda will continue be vocalized especially in the public school, where
parents even now are chided by school districts if they express opposition
to their child being taught by a homosexual or transsexual teacher.

In addition, the bill provides funding for curriculum which teaches children
that Christians are perpetrators as hate. Other hate crime curriculum
designed for children as young as five years old teaches that "People who
have always felt as if they were in the body of the wrong sex are called
'transsexual.' Some transsexual kids grow up and get sex change operations
and some don't."

In addition it poses a major threat to Constitutional powers given to states
to prosecute their own crimes. The amendment would dramatically expand the
federal civil rights law that makes it a federal crime to interfere
violently with another person's exercise of a federally protected activity
(such as voting, attending school, etc) because of that person's race,
religion or ethnicity. Senator Kennedy's amendment would broaden the current
concept of hate crimes to include violent acts committed on the basis of the
victim's sexual preference, gender or disability. In addition, it would
authorize federal prosecution of bias-motivated attacks even when the victim
is not engaged in a federally protected activity.

This expansion of federal jurisdiction is unnecessary. Every violent crime
is a hate crime. No crime victim should be entitled to greater protection
than another. Furthermore, "hate crimes" account for a small number of total
crimes. In fact, an American is three times more likely to be killed by
lightning than to be murdered in a hate crime.

Senator Kennedy's hate crime bill promotes unequal treatment and justice for
victims of violent crime and they put federal prosecutors in the
inappropriate position of investigating the beliefs and motivations of
criminal defendants.
