FIRST SUGAR, THEN TEA, THEN COFFEE, THEN OPIUM

As chemistry advanced and some substances could be refined it so developed that sugar was the first product with a addictive property which quickly represented itself as a big item of international commerce.

This is really very inspired writing below and adding something to it is a privilege.

Coffee was actually originally a food crop.  It was baked into bread and stews along with the green outer layer to give everyone a buzz.  The serious point to make is that roasting coffee beans deprived the starving Africans of a significant  food crop.

Now David since you had nothing to say about energy in this post I must say that there is nothing there I disagree with.  On social political theory you are in the front ranks.

It is amazing to me that you are consistently able to turn out these well written pieces with every i doted and every t crossed and every word spelled correctly (something no one ever accused me of) and never even a split infinitive!  I hope you can teach this to others.

BTW coffee itself originated in Ethiopia where folks traditionally drink it
with salt, not cream and/or sugar.  Everywhere else coffee grows is evidence
of colonial/imperial/corporate agricultural domination and look what Ethiopian
people have gotten out of the deal.

David Crockett Williams wrote:

It is the corruption in/of America manifest in the Corrupt US Government and
its Corrupt CIA et. al. agencies responsible for the drug war economy,
corruption pure and simple in its many hiding places in the human heart.

corruption Of america, corruption In america, corruption Is america,
whatever way you look at it the underlying issue is corruption itself -- or
else we would have to entertain the illogical notion that drug smuggling is
an official policy of the US and the CIA.

Prevalent and institutionalized corruption it does seem to be, but most
folks can handle hammering corruption better than hammering the CIA which
seems like Brer Rabbit punching the tar baby and getting stuck, with gooey
tar smeared all over him unable to move.

Everyone would have to agree with the need for rooting out and exposing and
remedying corruption wherever it is, especially in an organization as
powerful and unaccountable as the cia.

I suppose a case could be made that the unaccountability is an integral part
of the widespread institutionalized corruption being discussed on this
ist  ---
but first and foremost it is the mind of the people wherein lies the root of
all corruption, ie, ethics distorted by desire for "something".

Smallpox laden blankets for the American Indians in the early years, crack
for the ghettos in modern times, and next, biotoxic fungus to be sprayed in
Central America.

What we need is a simple framing of universal human ethical values by which
the corruption can be clearly seen as the shadow that it is -- in the minds
and the places where the light of
truth, love, peace, duty, and nonviolence are shaded from reaching by the
inflated ego of arrogance run amok.

Ethics vs Corruption is clear and simple -- without embracing the former we
each embrace the latter, like it or not, "know" it or not.

Everyone innately "knows" the truth, but generally people are taught from
childhood through adolescent "education", taught by institutions of a
corrupt society to pretend otherwise in order to "make a living" -- usually
by trying to "make a killing".

Thanks so much to everyone on this list for taking your part in this drama
as we see the beginning of the history of the 21st Century unfold in front
of opening, awakening,  sleepy and blurry eyes.

Where's the coffee?  Why, Colombia of course.
So much Colombian coffee in the markets we got to send
our troops down there to protect the supply, eh?

BTW coffee itself originated in Ethiopia where folks traditionally drink it
with salt, not cream and/or sugar.  Everywhere else coffee grows is evidence
of
colonial/imperial/corporate agricultural domination and look what Ethiopian
people have gotten out of the deal.  Why do we need a war in Colombia?  We
got
to have the java, man.   Caffeine and cocaine are chemically closely
related central nervous system stimulants.   You can still buy caffeine
tablets over the counter.

Another edition of "Saturday Night Ramblings" -- now how about a National
Coffee
Party to beat the Republicans and Democrats.  You automatically are a member
if you drink coffee.   Did cocaine corruption start with coffee or
coca-cola?

I suppose freeze dried crumbled coca leaves could approximate the cost in
markets of ground coffee after we win the drugwar.

Coca leaf tea with lime (calcium oxide) anyone?   A toast to victory anyone?
Could be the bitter herb of yore lore.
