Upon the Gov. of Hawaii signing the new Medical Marijuana Law, I ended up with my picture on the front page medicating my sore back. Subsequent to this a letter to the editor from the head of the Department of Public Safety was published naming me and stating that as far as he was concerned I was still breaking the law and would remains so until his department got around to approving the form the MD's need to sign, which could take until next year. In the meantime, AIDS patients continue to die without their medicine and efforts are being made to get a patients co-op up and running with medical delivery started to patients homes. Being that some of the local legalization proponents seem to be very uncomfortable with this approach (seeming to prefer a lot of talk but no medicine to sick people) I hope I am not sticking my neck out to far. I guess this is the polite way to say that I have been getting stabbed in the back and may get thrown in jail to the applause of some of the local legalization "leadership". Last year I gave them front and center at Alex Cockburns presentation (we had to do two shows, because the crowd was to big) and they "borrowed" the only copy of my mailing list and have yet to return it. Now nasty things are being said about me, denials made that previous positions had been taken and a lot of general fuckery that isnt helping sick people get help. And to top it off, the One Armed Bandit is rumored to use MJ to help his "war wound", favors legalization and folks are telling me to "let bygones be bygones" when it comes to "reopening old wounds" its "to late to do anything about Iran-Contra now". In other words, lay off Inouye ( who just got the CMofH as the ulimate payoff for the cover up, along with chair of the Appropriations Comm) because he is an ally in the MJ fight. The Native Hawaiian leaders who were attacked by Inouye and were supposed to help expose him now are going to have to kiss his ass being that the Supreme Court overruled the present State of Hawaii set up for Hawaiians and what looks like will emerge is something along the lines of american indian reservation status for Native Hawaiians, and Inouye is chair of the Indians committee. So much for that coalition, phone calls are no longer returned ( shades of Maxine W?). "Drugs and the One Armed Bandit" continues, part 2 on Ollie Norths note books being in the possession of Inouye and never released during the hearings.
