This is how the story goes: The CIA was running a sting operation on Arafat allies that were smuggling heroin. The CIA was allowing the heroin smugglers to go through customs unmolested so the CIA could monitor their routes & contacts. The terrorists figure out what is going on and then they decide to use this knowledge to their advantage. An unsuspecting mule is given a tape recorder that he thinks holds just another shipment of heroin. But its not heroin this time, it's a bomb. It was a briefcase and it usally contained drugs but this time they had to assasinate someone that they had been trying to get for a long time. The bomb was in the briefcase and loaded into the cargo hold as luggage. Sometimes you have to sacrafice lives for the betterment of humanity. Coleman should know, he was working for the DEA in Cyprus at the time and minitoring the whole thing on a daily basis. That a bomb was smuggled on board under the cover of the dope smuggling is one very likely scenario. And yet anybody who was important mangaed to stay off the Lockerbie plane at the very last minute. They were all warned away. Only "normal" people (ie people who don't count) were allowed to fly on it to their deaths. In other words, the CIA and other intelligence agencies form other countries knew that there was a bomb on board and didn't pass on the info. Why? Good question. Perhaps because they didn't wanna compromise their cherished dope route to Detroit. In any event, Lockerbie could have easily been prevented by simply keeping the plane on the ground. The two clowns presently being prosecuted in Holland for the Lockerbie crash are cleaner than an incubator. They didn't do it, and everyone basically knows it. The culprits are Syria and Iran.
