A Libertiot for Union of the Free

I am a libertiot.

I believe in the concepts and ideas enshrined in the American Declaration of 
Independence that were conceived in Europe yet born, raised and matured in the United 
States of America and beyond.  I hold "these truths to be self-evident:" that all men 
and women "are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain 
unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."  
Naturally, I believe that governments are created among men and women, "deriving their 
just powers from the consent of the governed; that whenever any form of government 
becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or abolish 
it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles and 
organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their 
safety and happiness." Furthermore, as an organizational principle, I believe that 
liberty and union are inseparable, that the greatest threat to the !
concepts and ideas I hold dearly is anarchy among free men and women.

As a libertiot I believe Clarence K. Streit was right when he urged the creation of an 
Atlantic federal union of the free by "uniting of the world�s most advanced 
democracies, modeled on the Constitution of the United States."   He articulated in 
Union Now that "The Union would be designed (a) to provide effective common government 
in our democratic world in those fields where such common government will clearly 
serve man�s freedom better than separate governments, (b) to maintain independent 
national governments in all other fields where such government will best serve man�s 
freedom, and (c) growing into universal world government peacefully and as rapidly as 
such growth will best serve man�s freedom."  I fully embrace his emphasis of freedom 
and union as the sine qua non of world peace and prosperity.  Today, his concepts and 
ideas should continue to serve as a guide for the establishment of a free world

A Libertiot for Atlantic Union of the Free

There are a plethora of challenges that need to be addressed in the 21st century.  We 
need to balance our desire for a high standard of living with our demand for higher 
standards of environmental stewardship.  We need to address the negative externalities 
associated with global commerce and trade.  We need to establish a world order free 
from war and tyranny.  We can address these issues, as well as others, today, as free 
men and women, or we can procrastinate and address these issues tomorrow as slaves.  
If we continue to address the common problems facing the Atlantic community, as well 
as the world, through our separate and equal stations, our individual liberty will 
soon become a figment of our imagination.

>From the Convention on Biological Diversity to the World Trade Organization, a 
>considerable amount of international regimes and organizations have been negotiated 
>and established by representatives of sovereign states that are specifically designed 
>to influence the socioeconomic behavior of the world�s inhabitants.  Forged with

It is imperative that we realize that as our common problems become more pronounced 
due to our refusal to unite the free today, we are likely to see more regimes formed 
and existing institutions and organizations granted more power and latitude to 
indirectly, and directly, control, manipulate and influence our individual pursuit of 
life, liberty and happiness in the so-called name of the common good.  This evolution 
will be gradual in nature, designed specifically not to awaken the sleeping majority 
of freedom-loving citizens of the world.  It will be carried out by those, in the 
words of the English Jurist Albert Dicey, "who know or think they know what is good 
for the people better than any non-official person or than the mass of the people 
themselves."  What will be lost is the essence of Western civilization, the notion 
that the state exists for the individual rather than the individual existing for the 
state.

>From an American perspective, while it is rational under the Constitution of the

Free men and women should cry: "No implementation without representation!"

Our Founding Fathers forged the Constitution of the United States because they 
recognized that individual liberty was best served when the decisions that affected 
the lives of Americans as a whole on a socioeconomic level were made by 
representatives directly elected by the American people themselves.  Today, the 
Atlantic community of nations share common problems that only common policies forged 
through common democratic institutions should address.  I cannot, in good conscience, 
allow a dictatorship by proxy to emerge simply because I refuse to seek a more 
perfect, Atlantic, union.  According to the Declaration of Independence, "Prudence, 
indeed, will dictate that governments long established should not be changed for light 
and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shown, that mankind are more 
disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing 
the forms to which they are accustomed."  I refuse, however, to allow the current!
 abuses and usurpations associated with the international treaty and agreement-making 
power to facilitate the erosion of individual liberty.

I am a libertiot and I chose Atlantic Union now!
