Dear Colleagues, Miami Herald Colombia correspondent Tim Johnson is leaving that country after four years. He wrote a goodbye column on Sunday that looks like it flew by the editorial desk with no concern at all about checking facts. The story was so rife with errors and untruths that we put it through our own fact checkers and experts and came up with 11 paragraphs that had to be corrected and clarified. Sloppy Washington-guided journalism like that of Mr. Johnson is precisely what brought us Plan Colombia. He'll be gone soon, but the Colombians (and the people of much of Amrica) will continue to suffer the consequences of the bad reporting by him and other US correspondents. Here's the fact-check, with a link to Johnson's adios letter, and a link to our interview with authentic Colombian journalist Alfredo Molano, exiled with his family due to direct threats by government-backed paramilitary squads: http://www.narconews.com/johnsonstory.html We have of course offered Mr. Johnson the opportunity to reply, uncensored, to our points. We welcome your comments as well. un abrazote, Al Giordano publisher The Narco News Bulletin http://www.narconews.com/ [EMAIL PROTECTED] ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com --------------------------------------------------------------------<e|- Get a NextCard Visa, in 30 seconds! 1.
