Peace at any cost is a Prelude to War!

Let’s Elect Gore and Get On with the War

By Chuck Baldwin

August 22, 2000

Do Al Gore and his fellow Democrats really want to start
another Revolutionary War? Does anyone in Washington D.C.
even know what it was that started America’s War for
Independence?

America’s Revolutionary War did not begin over taxation
without representation, high tariffs, corrupt British
judges, or even quartering troops among the colonists.
Although all of these (and more) are enumerated in our
Declaration of Independence among the many grievances
against the Crown, it was not these abuses that triggered
that shot heard ‘round the world. The Revolutionary War
began when British troops were sent to Lexington and
Concord to confiscate the Americans’ firearms. That’s
right. Gun confiscation was the match that lit our War for
Independence.

Is it, therefore, an act of tyranny when Al Gore and his
fellow Democrats propose gun-control legislation that
requires gun registration? Is it an act of despotism when
they attempt to make certain firearms illegal to purchase
or possess? Are we so stupid not to know that in every
instance where gun registration has been enacted, gun
confiscation soon followed? Will we peacefully surrender
that which our forefathers sacrificed their lives and
fortunes to secure?

Many say the answer is simply to elect G. W. Bush and his
fellow Republicans. I really wish it were that simple. It’s
not. Just a few days ago on August 9, the Republican
Governor of New York signed into law sweeping gun control
legislation. Gov. Pataki’s bill calls for ballistic
fingerprinting, trigger locks, banning the sale of
so-called assault weapons, raising the age of handgun
ownership to 21 and instant background checks to be made of
gun buyers at gun shows. Remember George Pataki is a
Republican. Sadder still is the realization that most (if
not all) of these gun control measures are enthusiastically
supported by Mr. Bush.

Here is my fear: what people would never submit to with a
liberal Democratic White House, they would silently and
compliantly submit to with a "conservative" Republican
White House. Can we really trust a party that sold out the
Constitution and the rule of law by sheepishly lying down
in front of a media juggernaut during Clinton’s
impeachment?

Can we trust a party that has yet to connect the dots of
Clinton’s treasonous conduct with Beijing? Can we trust a
party that has increased federal spending at a level not
seen in 20 years? Can we trust a party that still sings the
praises of a man who leaves his wife on her sick bed to
chase the skirts of a young woman half his age (Newt
Gingrich)? Truthfully, what Democrats will do overnight,
Republicans will do in time. The problem is, we are running
out of time.

An AP poll just released reveals that some 90% of today’s
teenagers believe we need more gun control. We already have
over 20,000 gun control laws of various kinds on the books,
and they think we need more!

Does anyone really believe that there will be any patriots
(of fighting age) left in this nation 30 years from today
that remotely understand the founding principles of this
republic? Our public schools are indoctrination centers for
socialism. Washington and Jefferson are impugned as nothing
more than homophobic, slave masters. The average young
person today hasn’t even read the US Constitution, Bill of
Rights or Declaration of Independence. Can such a
generation fight for something it doesn’t even know
exists?

That leaves it up to us. It is up to this generation to
protect these fundamental principles. Our nation’s
liberties and freedoms will be preserved or punted by this
generation! Instead of letting Republicans steal our
liberties one piece at a time until all resistance has
faded away into the black hole of ignorance, maybe it’s
time to elect Gore and get on with the war while there are
still people left who know the score!

Today, candor compels us to admit that our vaunted two-party system is a

nothing but two wings of the same bird of prey...
