That's not, however, to say that there wasn't any.
Is this statement to be taken as a statement of fact, or of belief ?
For the public record of fact or for public opinion ?
Rhetoric for public consumption is very loaded these days. (E.g.,
Clinton's "State of the Nation address" talked little about the state of
the Nation as I could interpret it. Most of the statements referred to
'current projections' and the like, rather than to actualities. I would
agree that the 'projections' themselves belonged to the present (at that
time) but the projected scenarios themselves certainly did not).
The lack of evidence is not evidence of absence - the findings as I
read them are not inconsistent with a missile impact. Although I
personally have no reason to believe that a missile did down TWA800, I see
no reason to dismiss the possibility (as yet) either. If we don't know, we
don't know, and in my view, that is an OK position for the informed
skeptic to hold. Denial of explanation is denial of responsibility for
understanding.
