LAZIO STRIKES RIGHT 'NOTE' IN HIS LATEST FUND-RAISING LETTER

RICK LAZIO'S "urgent" new fund-raising letter cuts to the chase.
In the notecard-size mailing, Lazio tells potential donors he
needs only six words to convince them to grab their checkbooks:
"I'm running against Hillary Rodham Clinton."
"Sincerely, Rick Lazio."
It's short, but dynamite - even if it doesn't quite fit with
Lazio's insistence that he is much more than simply the
"un-Hillary."
One contributor got the point and offered a three-word response
with her $100 - "I'm a Democrat."
Other supporters have needed more space when scribbling their
feelings about the first lady on their checks - some of them not
fit for a family newspaper.
"I would rather have the most severe, intense, indescribable case
of diarrhea for six years" than have Hillary elected, one person
wrote.

An Israeli official is charging that a dinner in New York to
honor the president and the first lady for their work in
recovering property plundered from Holocaust victims is a thinly
veiled pro-Hillary campaign event.
Israeli parliament member Michael Kleiner said the Sept. 11 gala
- organized by Clinton friend and World Jewish Congress leader
Edgar Bronfman - is taking place at the wrong time, in the wrong
place.
"I think it is very grave that an important national Jewish
matter like the property of Jews is turned into an American
political event," Kleiner fumed, according to the Hebrew-language
Ha'aretz newspaper.
Organizers denied any connection with Hillary's campaign and said
dignitaries will include Republicans, possibly Al D'Amato and
Gov. Pataki. Lazio has not been invited.

Hillary's swing through the Hudson Valley over the weekend didn't
go off without a few hitches.
The first lady, who was introduced as "Mrs. Hilton" at a women's
event in Nyack, at one point referred to Lazio as "my candidate."
She also mistakenly claimed her opponent is supporting a large
"tax increase" - when she meant to say decrease.
Meanwhile, Clinton backer Rep. Maurice Hinchey (D-Saugerties)
stooped to some name-calling when introducing Hillary at an
appearance in Newburgh.
"We shall not send a child to do an adult's work," Hinchey said.
"Let us send an adult to represent us in the Senate of the United
States.
