-Caveat Lector-

I didn't write this, but it speaks the truth, and there's some good links at
the end:

Gay [Homosexuals] righters no longer seek just tolerance but endorsement

CONTROVERSIAL radio talk-show host Dr. Laura Schlessinger has launched her
new television show to much furor and fanfare --- but gay [homosexual]
activists and their allies in the fashionable elite are hoping it's a
short-lived debut.

They are aggressively working to force her off the air by pressuring
advertisers to drop her show because of comments she's made about
homosexuals, including calling homosexuality a "biological error" and saying
that gay behavior is "deviant" because it deviates from the heterosexual
norm.

Now, it's true that "Dr. Laura" sometimes makes even her admirers wince at
her tone or choice of words. But admirers she has. Every day millions of
Americans tune in to her top-rated talk show on which she champions
traditional values. I'm often one of them, and I hardly remember Dr. Laura
discussing homosexuality.

But to hear the gay [homosexual] movement and their allies tell it, these
comments, which they themselves keep repeating, are a daily call to arms,
not a rapid response once offered in the crush of a three-hour radio
broadcast.

This is not to minimize Dr. Laura's beliefs on the matter. Like tens of
millions of Americans, including myself, she simply believes that homosexual
behavior is morally wrong. But the activist community is desperate to move
the issue away from her mainstream-though-politically-incorrect views on the
issue and focus only on a few biting comments they can evidence as her
"hate-filled homophobia."

But there is really no way in which Dr. Laura could have discussed her
beliefs on homosexuality that would have caused the activists to behave any
differently. They simply won't tolerate a person of her stature offering a
notion of anything less than a full moral endorsement of gay behavior.

For no longer is the homosexual movement about tolerance, about being
treated fairly, with respect and equality under the law, something all
decent Americans should and do embrace. It is about forcing all of us to
morally affirm the gay lifestyle - even when our own deeply held religious
or moral beliefs teach otherwise.

Consider the most "in-your-face" strategy possible: public, practicing gays
forcing themselves into the ranks of the Boy Scouts of America, a private
service organization that has admirably trained and encouraged young men for
a century, and which doesn't admit open homosexuals.

The Scouts had never made a public display of their moral stance, but the
activists did - they sued. Yet when the Supreme Court recently affirmed the
right of the Scouts as a private organization to decide their own moral
course, that was, well, intolerable. So now when it comes to the Boy Scouts,
according to a recent report in the Christian Science Monitor, "...
Gay-rights groups across the nation are working to paint the 6
million-strong organization as a bastion of bigots undeserving of community
support."

That's tolerance?

The gay [homosexual] movement consistently maintains that not embracing
homosexual behavior is akin to racism. But this is condescending to both
racial minorities and gays. It may well be that sexual orientation is deeply
ingrained - those of us who believe in original sin know that's true of the
sin with which we all struggle - but behavior is not ingrained.

And as a consortium of scholars once wrote in an issue of "First Things" on
the matter as excerpted in the Wall Street Journal: "Any discipline of
denial or restraint has been popularly depicted as unhealthy and
dehumanizing. We insist, however, that it is dehumanizing to define
ourselves by our desires alone."

Nevertheless, the gay-rights [[ homosexual-rights] movement is even intent
on crushing any notion that homosexual behavior can be changed, no matter
how much a gay man or woman wants that change. That's one premise in a book
overtly sympathetic to the homosexual movement, "Just the Facts," backed by
a coalition of educators and gay organizations and recently distributed to
every public school district in the United States.

JWR columnist Mona Charen quotes Kevin Jennings, executive director of the
Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, as saying of the book that
"gays [homosexuals] need to receive support from their schools. They need to
receive affirmation."

Bingo. It's not tolerance the movement seeks any longer. It's full moral
endorsement even at the cost of riding roughshod over deeply held religious
beliefs and freedom of association and expression.

The losers here include not only those who hold traditional moral beliefs
and truly seek a fair and tolerant society, but also those many gays
[homosexuals] who believe in tolerance and so want no part of the activist
homosexual agenda.

I can't find any winners.

norm.

What we're really trying to see is, 'Are there individuals who give a pretty
convincing report that they have changed in a fundamental way their sexual
orientation, and has it been sustained for many years? ...' I'm personally
convinced that many of these individuals have maintained and made major
changes in their sexual orientation. Pete Winn, "A Crack in the Wall? A
respected psychiatrist rethinks homosexuality," CitizenLink: Family Issues
in Policy and Culture, February 21, 2000

Many gay people want to use this research to promote gay rights. If gay
people are 'born that way,' then discrimination against them must be wrong.
... A gay or lesbian person's public identity, sexual behaviors, romantic
relationships, or decisions to raise children are all choices. No theory
suggests that these choices are genetic. Michael Bronski, "Blinded by
Science," The Advocate, February 1, 2000, p. 64.

But the activist community is desperate to move the issue away from her
mainstream-though-politically-incorrect views on the issue and focus only on
a few biting comments they can evidence as her "hate-filled homophobia."

Homosexuals comprise about 1.4% of the population in America but commit over
half of all child molestations. They are 12 times more likely to molest
children than heterosexuals. Homosexuals killed 68% of the victims of mass
murders in the U.S. during the past 17 years. Homosexual sex is often
violent. A third of gays and lesbians admit that hurting or being hurt is a
part of sexual fun. 1 H.A. Dobbs, "Homosexuals," in The Firm Foundation
(October 1992), p. 2.

The "hate crime" hyperbole has also obscured the real problem of violent
crimes that don't lend themselves to a politically correct morality play.
The facts suggest that homosexuals are not at special risk from violence.
The sad truth is that homosexuals are at much greater risk of harm from
their own behavior than from bias-related attacks: Between 21,000 and 25,000
homosexual men died of AIDS each year from 1991 through 1995* - 10,000 times
the number of deaths due to "anti-gay" attacks. Bias-related violent attacks
against homosexuals comprise a minuscule portion of violent crime. *Table
23, "Estimated deaths of persons with AIDS, by age group, sex, exposure
category, and year of death, 1991-1996, United States," Centers for Disease
Control HIV/AIDS Surveillance Report, Vol. 9, No. 2, p. 29.

In October 1998, the National Association for the Research and Therapy of
Homosexuality (NARTH) and the Claremont Institute, a conservative think
tank, held a joint conference to discuss the threat posed by the homosexual
rights movement to the family and American culture. At the last minute, the
conference had to be relocated to a different hotel, since the originally
planned hotel refused to allow the conference after receiving bomb threats.
The conference went ahead at the new location, but not without disturbances
and threats of violence from homosexual rights activists. In addition, the
Los Angeles City Council passed a resolution condemning the conference.

It is relevant to note that the Claremont Institute is not an extremist
organization that promotes "gay bashing" or other unsavory measures. It is
an academic organization, and a number of prominent political scientists in
the United States are associated with it.

Prof. Erler also presents a concise summary of the natural law argument for
the family and against homosexuality. "The distinction between the sexes
exists by nature and the specialization of the sex act exists by nature.
This means inevitably that the family exists by nature and the morality that
grows up around the family also exists by nature. It is not a matter of
tradition or culture, but nature. If there is no objective ground for
morality that can be derived from the principles of human nature, then all
morality -- as the homosexual liberation movement would have us believe --
is merely a matter of what you choose to accept".

Thus once homosexuality has overturned traditional sexual morality, there is
no rational basis for opposing any form of sexuality, no matter how vile it
may be. The acceptance of homosexuality will place society onto a slippery
slope that leads invariably down to greater depths of depravity.

The Scouts had never made a public display of their moral stance, but the
activists did - they sued. Yet when the Supreme Court recently affirmed the
right of the Scouts as a private organization to decide their own moral
course, that was, well, intolerable. So now when it comes to the Boy Scouts,
according to a recent report in the Christian Science Monitor, "...

support."

"Gay Rights" Strategies Involve Conscious Deception And Wholesale
Manipulation of Public Opinion

Edward Erler, a professor of political science at California State
University, San Bernardino, makes a striking point about the homosexuals'
public relations success: "Homosexuals have been the victors in perhaps the
greatest propaganda war ever waged. They have appropriated the word 'gay' to
describe activities that are anything but gay, and they have invented the
impossible word 'homophobia' to describe a mental condition that conveys the
implication of 'irrational' opposition or hostility to homosexuals. And
homosexuals, although well organized and generally affluent, have been able
to portray themselves successfully as a 'powerless minority.' These have all
been ingredients in a highly successful propaganda war designed to transform
the legal, political, and moral landscape of America"

The gay movement consistently maintains that not embracing homosexual
behavior is akin to racism. But this is condescending to both racial
minorities and gays. It may well be that sexual orientation is deeply
ingrained - those of us who believe in original sin know that's true of the
sin with which we all struggle - but behavior is not ingrained.

Time and time again, scientists have claimed that particular genes or
chromosomal regions are associated with behavioral traits, only to withdraw
their findings when they were not replicated. 'Unfortunately,' says Yale's
[Dr. Joel] Gelernter, 'it's hard to come up with many' findings linking
specific genes to complex human behaviors that have been replicated. 'All
were announced with great fanfare; all were greeted unskeptically in the
popular press; all are now in disrepute. C. Mann, "Genes and Behavior,"
Science 264 (1994): 1687.
