Peace at any cost is a Prelude to War!

Officers Fed Up With Army as Career
NewsMax.com
September 25, 2000
More than two out of three officers surveyed say they "see no possibility for
continued job satisfaction in the Army" under the Clinton-Gore administration.
As many of them put it, they're just "not having fun anymore."

They look at their own superiors, see how unhappy they are in the service and
ask themselves why in the world they would want to be in their shoes.

The lack of enthusiasm for staying in the Army is found especially among
lieutenants, captains, majors and colonels – the workhorse officers in any
war.

According to a Monday story in the Washington Times:

The biggest factor contributing to this widespread disaffection within the
ranks of the Army's officer corps is the Clinton-Gore administration's
deployment of United States military forces on an unprecedented number of war
and peacekeeping missions around the globe during its nearly eight years in
office.

This rapid rate of operations has brought on a weakened combat readiness and
forced officers in all the services to entertain second thoughts about a
military career.

Those findings are part of a report commissioned by the Army chief of staff,
Gen. Eric Shinseki, and written by a study group for the Army Training and
Leader Development Panel, set up last spring at the Army's Command and
General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kan.

The report is based on polling and focus groups with more than 3,000
commissioned officers in combat and combat-support jobs.

Some of the other findings:

• Job satisfaction is down all across the officer corps.

• More than 70 percent of surveyed officers agreed that "I can no longer
balance the needs of the Army with needs of my family."

• Between 69 percent and 73 percent agreed with the statement: "I see no
possibility for continued job satisfaction in the Army."

• "Optempo [operational tempo, or frequency of missions], micromanagement and
not adhering to training doctrine are the major factors causing job
dissatisfaction among the officer corps."

• "Many officers look at their superiors and note that they are not having
fun. Then they ask themselves why they would want that job."

Today, candor compels us to admit that our vaunted two-party system is a
snare and a delusion, a fraud upon the nation. Our two parties have become
nothing but two wings of the same bird of prey...
