Photos in A SUTTON AMERICAS SECRET ESTABLISHMENT (Amazon) ***** Reduced rates ending soon Thu, 9 Nov 2000 Blazing Tattles <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hello Friend, The mission of Blazing Tattles has been to expose stuff about chemicals that people need to know. For many years, Blazing Tattles offered subscriptions to people with disabilities (also to students, underemployed people, and retired people) at special rates. These amounted to about 50% off regular subscription prices. People could receive BT with payments of smaller or greater amounts, themselves setting the prices. It is no longer possible -- for the time being, at least -- to continue this policy. People already subscribed at special rates can continue indefinitely to subscribe at current rates, but new subscribers will not be able to obtain them. For those who have been "meaning to" subscribe to Blazing Tattles at special rates but haven't gotten around to it, do it now or perhaps never at these prices again. You have until midnight, December 10, to so do. The Blazing Tattles web site, http://www.blazingtattles.com -- in a few more few days -- will give you the option to pay at a secure site by check or credit card, but as at November 10, the only way to buy a subscription is the "old fashioned way" by sending your check or money order to: Blazing Tattles P.O. Box 8609 Tampa, FL 33674 The suggested price for disabled people for twelve issues (one year, postage paid) has been US$18.00 for those in US, Canada, and Mexico. People in other countries, please add US$8.00 for postage (AIR). Again, this policy will end on December 10, 2000. Also, for your information, Blazing Tattles is offering a complete line of the books of Hulda R. Clark, N.D., Ph.D., in English [and partial list of books in German, Italian, Finnish, and Japanese], as well as her Manual on the Sycrometer, and her video, and cassette tape. Some related books will also be sold by Blazing Tattles. This information will be up on the site in a few days at http://www.blazingtattles.com/info/subscribe.html. If you are eager to buy before it is posted, send me an email, [EMAIL PROTECTED], providing your phone number and best time for me to call you. I'll provide by phone the details of what is available. Permission is granted to forward this message to others if you care to. Best wishes, Claire -- Claire W. A provocative and controversial analysis of current news and commentary, the column begins by asking, "What will it be like with George Bush Jr as president? It will be a return to the 'Bush' form of government -- namely a government of shadow cliques, secret commissions and defacto star chambers." It continues by stating that "you have to look at the entire Bush Family in this context -- as if the entire family ran a corporation called 'Frauds-R-Us.' Each member of the family has his own specialty of fraud. George Jr's specialty was insurance and security fraud. Neil's specialty was real estate fraud. Prescott's specialty was banking fraud. Wally's specialty was securities fraud. And George Sr.'s specialty? All of the above." Al Martin also comments on the background of the infamous National Heritage Insurance fraud of Florida recently profiled on CBS "60 Minutes." His Just released book, "The Conspirators: Secrets of an Iran Contra Insider" is available for $19.95 at 877-776-9004 The website, Al Martin Raw (http://www.almartinraw.com) is the exclusive distributor of his new column "Behind the Scenes in the Beltway." ***** Cavalcade of Hypocrisy In October, Matthew J. Glavin, president of the conservative legal foundation leading the fight to disbar President Clinton for lying about his sexual affairs, was charged with public indecency, allegedly caught trolling for anonymous male sex partners in a suburban Atlanta park. And John Paulk, whose personal "religion cures homosexuality" experience landed him on the cover of Newsweek in 1998, was demoted as an executive with the Christian group Focus on the Family after he was caught in October reveling in a Washington, D.C., gay bar. And Mike Trout, another Focus on the Family official, resigned in October after confessing to an extramarital affair. Bush as President may depend on the resolution of voting irregularities in Florida. Reports from Palm Beach County indicate that a confusing ballot set-up in that county led to thousands of votes mistakenly going to Pat Buchanan instead of Al Gore. There are reports of other voting irregularities as well. Florida Governor Jeb Bush, brother of George W. Bush, has recused himself from investigating these problems. Florida Secretary of State, Katherine Harris, presides over elections in Florida, and must bear ultimate responsibility for the integrity of the results to be reported by that state. We, the men and women of Amanecer Zapatista Unidos en la Lucha (AZUL), reject a quick-fix solution to a centuries old problem of injustice and violence against the indigenous communities of Chiapas! We, as Mexicanos, immigrants, students, and workers, call to action our community in New York and communities in solidarity across the country and the world to demand an end to the violence in Chiapas on the first day Fox takes office on December 1!!!. President-elect of Mexico, Vicente Fox, has promised to quickly restart peace talks with the zapatistas and "negotiate" implementation of the San Andres accords after he takes office. Before that important step can take place, Fox must first move quickly to dismantle the immediate danger that is at the center of the conflict in Chiapas: the growing military and paramilitary presence in communities throughout indigenous regions, and, the rapidly increasing displacement of hundreds of families fleeing from the violence of army occupation and paramilitary attacks. Across Chiapas, impoverished and isolated indigenous communities remain surrounded by an estimated 70,000 soldiers and by hundreds of additional paramilitary forces who harass and violate struggling families every single day in all indigenous regions. The daily reality is this: people are dying by direct military or paramilitary attacks and because of the inaccessibility of basic needs. More than 20,000 people have been displaced in the last few years due to the on-going low-intensity war being waged by the government of Mexico, a low-intensity war with long-term, high-intensity repercussions. We the men and women of AZUL extend an invitation to all zapatista organizers and supporters to come together at Mexican consulates throughout the U.S. and the world on Friday, December 1, 2000 to keep Fox to his promise and demand in one voice: The immediate withdrawal of the more than 70,000 Mexican soldiers surrounding indigenous regions in Chiapas The immediate dismantlement of paramilitary groups The release of all detained indigenous leaders The immediate relocation of the more than 20,000 displaced indigenous men, women, and children of Chiapas The final implementation of the San Andres Accords. The agreement to all EZLN demands and conditions to enable a return to dialogue with the government Join us in this open challenge to Mr. Fox because although it will take more than 15 minutes to bring real justice to Chiapas, it takes less than 15 minutes to decide to take action and demand the rights of the indigenous peoples of Mexico, and less then fifteen seconds to pull on a mask, pick up a sign and yell YA BASTA!! If your community is organizing a local action, please let us know. Brian Willson by Frank Dorrel I first heard about Brian Willson back in 1986 when he was fasting with 3 others veterans on the steps of the U.S. Capitol Building. Charlie Liteky, George Mizo, Duncan Murphy and Brian were protesting U.S. military involvement in Central America. We were supporting deaths squads in El Salvador, the Contra terrorists in Nicaragua and a murderous military government in Guatemala, just to name a few of the countries our government was brutally interfering with. These men had fought for their country but now they were fighting for something bigger! They called their action the Veterans Fast for Life! I had recently discovered KPFK 90.7 listener sponsored FM radio and had been learning about what our government was doing to the people of Central America via the CIA. Blas Bonpane, Noam Chomsky, John Stockwell, Phil Agee, Michael Parenti and Ramsey Clark were some of the people who were enlightening me. Then, in 1987, Brian and other veterans took part in a demonstration at Concord, California. They were peaceably blocking the tracts where naval trains were traveling, carrying lethal weapons that were going to Central America to kill innocent people! Unbeknown to the veterans, the FBI had identified them as suspected terrorists, somehow related to their earlier fast in Washington DC. The engineer sped the train to three times its legal speed limit and ran over Brian, cutting off his legs and fracturing his skull. The other veteran narrowly missed being hit. Brian was lucky to have lived through this terrible assault. Nevertheless, he continued on with his activism! Only now, he was much more famous in the Peace Movement, as well as to the people of Central America, who considered him a hero! The first time I heard Brian speak in person, it was at the First Methodist Church in Los Angeles, sometime after he had lost his legs. Brian told his story and my life was changed forever! I came home and told my wife Jane, that I had been in the presence of someone very special! I related to Brian's story, more then anyone I had heard before or since! He was speaking from his heart about the truth of what he had experienced in Vietnam and what he had since come to learn about U.S. foreign policy. Brain had gone to Vietnam believing the United States was doing the right thing in fighting against the "evil Communists." He had been raised by religious parents and taught, like most Americans, that the United States stood for freedom and democracy, all over the world. Brian had been a high achiever in his life. He was a good student and had been an all around athlete. He was born on July 4th and grew up in a small town in upstate New York. He went into the Air Force, because although he believed the communists had to be stopped, he really didn't want to kill anyone himself. He became an officer and after two years of duty in the states, he was sent to Vietnam and assigned to lead a combat security unit to protect airbases in South Vietnam. He was directed to inspect a village after being bombed by South Vietnamese. He witnessed incredible destruction to the village, most of the victims being women and children. He saw a young Vietnamese woman, dead but still clutching her three disfigured children, all of whom were dead and burning. They had been hit with bomb fragments and napalm. Witnessing that scene changed Brian's life, forever! Something inside him intuitively understood that this U.S. war against the people of Vietnam, could not be right. He began openly questioning U.S. policy while in Vietnam. He was ordered back to the states early and subsequently returned to civilian life. He received his law degree in the early 70's but found that he no longer believed in the integrity of the justice system and quickly left law. He spent several years critiquing the criminal (in) justice system while working as a lobbyist in Washington prison expansion. Disgusted with the political process he "dropped out" for awhile to become a dairy farmer. In the early '80s, Brian served as a legislative aide in Massachusetts, working on prison and veterans issues. Later, Brian became the director of the Vietnam Veteran Outreach Center in Massachusetts. While in that position 12 area Vietnam veterans committed suicide. This caused Brian to delve more deeply into the psychic dimensions of war and the healing needed. Governor Dukakis subsequently awarded him a special commendation for this work. However, a nagging feeling was eating away at him. His awareness of our government's covert involvement in Central America bothered him more and more. In 1986, he went to Nicaragua to see for himself. He found that the U.S. backed Contras were terrorizing the people of Nicaragua. The Sandinista government was labeled as being Communist by the Reagan administration, which justified the U.S. attacking innocent Nicaragua civilians. Brian asked, "Why are we once more, killing mothers and fathers and children! How could we let this happen again?" Now, Brian began to understand that this was the American way. Killing and oppressing peoples of the third world was nothing new. As he read the real history it became very clear that our civilization has a long history of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity. From the genocide committed against the Native Americans, to the holocaust exacted against millions of Africans to facilitate slavery, to our global "Manifest Destiny" doctrine, a pattern of racism and ethnocentrism produced a grisly path. And then he realized that the U.S. demands access to cheap natural resources, expanded markets and wage slaves, thus controlling the destiny of millions of our fellow brothers and sisters on the planet, in order to preserve our disproportionately privileged way of life. He coined the term AWOL, the American Way of Life, for what he understood as an important explanation driving this imperialism. The United States with but 4.5 percent of the world's population, uses upwards of 50 percent of the world's natural resources. How can that be justified as fair, democratic or moral? As his awareness and pain intensified, Brian found it difficult to continue employment. He began to become more active. The Veterans Fast For Life, the train assault at Concord, organizing Veterans Peace Action Teams to witness in Central America, and speaking to people around the country, were just some of his activities. Brian has traveled to Vietnam, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Cuba, Panama, Colombia, Haiti, North and South Korea, Israel, Palestine, Iraq and other third world countries, where he has met with many of the people our government has been oppressing. In recent years, he has been concentrating on personal healing, applying right livelihood and writing. His website is www.brianwillson.com and his essays are as good as anything I have read on the subject of U.S. foreign policy. He plans to turn them into a book in the near future. Brian will be speaking at the Patriotic Hall on Sat. Dec. 9th at 2:00 PM. I hope that everyone involved in the Peace Movement comes to hear him. He is a truth teller, a peace activist and more! His mantra is "We are not worth more, they are not worth less!" I believe that there is power in numbers, so I invite everyone who is reading this article, to come and be part of a very special day with this very special man! Together, we can move forward in our quest for peace on Earth!
