TAMPA -- Cars and sport utility vehicles in a downtown parking lot were no match Wednesday for a man with a Mack truck and a theory that government workers had implanted a microchip in his stomach to control him. Revving the engine at full force, Anthony Diveley rammed the hulking white truck he had stolen in Seminole County into the sides, backs and fronts of parked cars, police said. In some cases, he crashed into two vehicles at a time. At other times, he used one car as a battering ram to smash others, they said. When the truck came to a rest next to a crushed Chevrolet Lumina, witnesses said, the 38-year-old climbed atop the truck's hood and declared that the government was conspiring against him and poisoning his body with rays beamed from a satellite. "Like a broken record, he kept saying he had a chip in his belly and that when a satellite flies overhead, it burns his brain and fries his belly," said Patrick Sistrunk, a GTE customer service representative who witnessed the incident as he parked his car in the lot at Morgan and Cass streets. In all, police said, Diveley damaged 20 vehicles, though no one was injured. He was being held at a Hillsborough County jail Wednesday night in lieu of $18,500 bail.
