Some years ago I explained to a young Turkish gentleman the reasons why the
United States was so successful in passing the baton when another party was
taking over the presidency. It's really too bad that I was not aware of the
"new Republicanism." I could have saved my breath. It appears that our
banana republicans are going to demonstrate to all the world that we are no
longer superior to any other country. Any means to an end (which should be
the motto of the Republican Party) has certainly become the principle we
should teach our children. It is too bad. The United States was a bright
shining light in the world for over two hundred years. We could feel great
pride in our country and its political mores. The winners now want power
and money, and in their spare time they will scheme to get even with those
who do not agree with them. What a shameful end to a once great political
