GAZING into the future may be as easy as pie, but don't blame me.
It's not my fault that liberals are so tiresomely predictable.
The U.S. Supreme Court: Five of the justices will be reviled for
the foreseeable future as "irresponsible activists." (We won't
hear about the two who also voted to slap the four Florida
justices.) Special added amounts of loathing will be dished out
to Antonin Scalia, and the libs' favorite whipping boy, Clarence
"Lawn Jockey" Thomas.
Every nominee that George W. Bush presents for a seat on the high
court will be thoroughly vetted for background dirt, and have his
reputation trashed as much as possible. We will once again hear
that old, old slogan that a conservative Supreme Court will "turn
back the clock on freedoms we worked so hard to achieve."
George Bush: You will hear that he "stole" the election along
with never-ending doses of "but Al Gore won the popular vote."
The epithets will run the gamut from "The Dummy" to "Daddy's Boy"
and everything in between. Every move he makes will be
scrutinized in direct proportion to every free pass that was
given the Perjurer-in-Chief and the Vice Perpetrator.
We still don't know how much influence the Chinese had in the '96
election, and we still haven't seen Al Gore's subpoenaed e-mails.
The blissful ignorance that attended eight years of willful
disregard for the law will now be avenged.
The media: Losers on parade. We will be back in the soup
kitchens, back on the unemployment lines, back to the "greedy"
vs. the "helpless." If there's one malcontent in 250 million
people, the media will find him, canonize him and demonize every
failure to save him from the "ravages of the Bush
administration."
Any image that can make America look like it's going to hell in a
handbasket will find its way onto the 6 o'clock news. Absolutely
anything that can be done to make George W. Bush and the
Republican Party look like evil incarnate will be disseminated
with gusto. Mucho gusto.
The federal government: Set your snooze alarm for the first
Tuesday in November 2002. Anything accomplished before that next
election will be a miracle. Think you've seen gridlock? You ain't
seen nothin' yet, and the "honeymoon period" usually accorded a
new president will bear a striking resemblence to that of Rick
Rockwell and Darva Conger.
Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, et al: Back from the political
graveyard. Forget the likes of Condoleezza Rice and Colin Powell.
We know who really speaks for black America, don't we?
