Not only does he have the facts wrong, but he has the intent wrong also.
After just using guns to secure freedom, does it make any sense that the
newly freed patriots would then turn around and want the very citizens
that fough for freedom unarmed? Not likely. THe founding fathers knew
full well that an armed citizenry was the only guarantee of freedom from
a despotic government. Most gun owners are not members of a
"gun-culture". They own guns for a variety of reasons, but do not spend
much time thinking about them except at hunting time. The rise in gun
violence, if at all true, would be better laid at the steps of the
government Drug War than the general population. Much of the mass gun
violence is perpetrated by armed thugs fighting over the more lucrative
drug sales areas. Why is it that the highest rates of gun involved
crimes (not just possession of a gun, but where a gun was used in the
commission of a crime) occur in places with the most stringent anti gun
laws? Why is it that everywnere carry permits have been issued more
freely, crime in general has dropped? I am not of the "gun culture", yet
I own several guns. They will have to come to my house and pry them from
my dead hand before I will ever willingly give them up. They are my last
defence against all sorts of threats, plus they put meat on the table in
tough times. The Constitution states that freedom is the way of life in
America; an armed citizenry insures it.
