In Canada, if they did an itemized billing (unless it has changed) of
the costs of a Health service provided to an individual patient, you
would see that the expenditure would be the same. Let me phrase it
another way, the infamous $10 aspirin, if you include all the costs
for providing that single aspirin to a particular patient (ie.all the
people that handle that aspirin; from the clerk, who sends the
doctors order on the chart to the pharmacy, the pharmacy technician,
the hospital pharmacist,the delivery person, the nurse who
administers it, etc.) and if you received that itemized bill in
Canada you'ld be shocked at how much the Canadian health system
actually costs for the same service; and you still have waiting lists
there to get things done. But don't let me get started on the US
health system, its a mess, a direct result of government intervention
and regulation and is getting worse by the minute. The crux of the
matter is in perceived concept that health care is a 'right', it is
not. Until people realize that a health insurance plan (card) should
not be like a bus pass and that the health insurance, should be there
to cover major illnesses and resultant hospitalizations (ie. along
the lines of auto accident insurance coverage). Regardless, whether
your in Canada or the U.S., costs are going to skyrocket mostly due
to government intervention.
