I don't think Libertarians equate CCSF with Statism. At least not the
ones I know. You are quite correct that Capitalism and Socialism are
economic systems while Communism and Fascism are political systems.
Political systems must have a source of income/power and by necissity
must adopt/graft a way to finance their existance. If you think about
it, The Communists of the Eastern Block adopted Socialism, and the
Imperialists (a variety of Fascist) of the West adopted Capitalism. Both
systems created a ruling class, a wealthy class who controlled
everything, a middle class striving for the carrot while feeling the pain
of the stick, and a lot of poor people. What is turning out to be
interesting is China. They watched the Cold War, saw the fall of the
Wall, and decided to graft Capitalism to their brand of Communism. That
mix may be worth watching. China is in an economic and industrial growth
spurt. They have the resources to overshadow everyone because they have
not wasted them yet. I have the impression that they rattle their
sabers only to spur massive military spending in the West. They have no
interest in expansionism, and know well that thermonuclear war is not
healthy for the planet they live on. It remains to be seen if they will
allow the Capitalists to gain any real power as Capitalists have done in
the West. If they can harness the total power of their territory, and
keep it working together, they are in a good position to dominate
economically. Particularly so if they manage to form close alliances
with their neighbors. That is the economic picture. The human rights
picture is not so rosy. It seems that the world wide rise of the bottom
line as god has made human rights a thing of the past. Now it is
economic rights that matter. That may well be the downfall of all the
current systems. The restlessness of the masses of people who are not
part of the boom, the economic noncombatants, the marginalized workers,
may yet express itself in revolt against the machine. The winner of that
contest may well be the EU, as they have acheived a better balance
between the Capitalists and the People.
