The thing is, being a carpenter in Jesus' time was a vastly different
profession, status-wise, than being a carpenter in modern times.
Wood was a precious commodity in that region at that time. A carpenter
in the middle-east 2000 years ago would be equivalent to a
goldsmith...perhaps not aristocracy, but definitely a skilled workman in
a precious substance, and as such would be considered a 'professional'
living an upper middle-class lifestyle, and not as a lowly blue-collar
lower-middle-class worker...

Oh, I suspect that one could uncover a conspiracy or two or three in
pre-biblical cultures such as ancient Egypt, Assyria, etc. In fact,
human nature being what it is, I suspect that conspiracies existed
amongst the ancient cave painters of the Stone Age...
