A weekly update of news and events regarding the nation and the people of
Israel

Week Ending: 30 December 2000 / 4 Tevet 5761

O G-d, do not remain quiet; do not be silent and, O G-d, do not be still.
For, behold, Thine enemies make an uproar; and those who hate Thee have
exalted themselves. They make shrewd plans against Thy people, and
conspire together against Thy treasured ones. [Psalm 83.1-3]

EDITOR'S NOTE: I apologize for the lateness of this report. I spent the
better part of the night in spiritual warfare, but, as expected, G-d was
victorious! While this is report is abbreviated, I have also included some
news of today, Sunday. Thank you for your patience.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THIS WEEK:

:: BARAK TRYING HARD TO GIVE AWAY THE LAND OF ISRAEL
:: MORE MURDERS IN THE LAND
:: SOME OF THE COMMUNITIES BARAK WANTS TO ABANDON
:: PRISONER TALKS CONTINUE
:: JUDAIZING JERUSALEM
:: THE REDEMPTION PROCESS AT THE CLIMAX OF THE AGES PROPHECY CONFERENCE

:: BARAK TRYING HARD TO GIVE AWAY THE LAND OF ISRAEL: Israel Prime
Minister Ehud Barak's transition government is saying yes to US President
Bill Clinton's plan to hand over Judaism's holiest site, the Temple Mount,
to the PLO, but PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat is saying no. Clinton is asking
Israel to divide Jerusalem and give neighborhoods such as the Mount of
Olives to the Arabs. According to the Clinton proposal, there would be a
PLO state on 95% of Judea and Samaria, Arafat would get all of Gaza, and
the Jewish citizens there would be evicted from their homes, as would many
Jews in Judea and Samaria. Clinton further proposes that Arafat receive
some land in the Negev, to compensate the PLO for not getting 100% of
Judea and Samaria. Israel would have to allow 150,000 Arabs to live in the
country, since many Arabs fled Israel when five Arab nations attacked the
fledgling state in 1948. Barak told the country Thursday that his cabinet
voted to hand over the Temple Mount to the PLO late Wednesday night. Ten
ministers were in favor, two were against, and two abstained.

The Council of Jewish Communities in Judea, Samaria, and Gaza (Yesha)
says that Barak asked his ministers to support his retreat from even more
of Judea and Samaria than Clinton is requesting. Clinton wants 95%; Barak
asked his ministers to support giving away 97%. The Council says Barak is
now ready to hand over Rachel's Tomb in Beit Lechem to the PLO. When Barak
retreated from Joseph's Tomb in Shechem, Arabs burned it to the ground
despite Yasser Arafat's earlier promises to protect Jewish holy sites.

:: MORE MURDERS IN THE LAND: Rabbi Binyamin Zev Kahane and his wife Talia
were murdered Sunday morning by Palestinian terrorists while en route from
Jerusalem to their home in Kfar Tapuach. The Kahane car was ambushed near
the town of Ofrah. Five of the late couple’s children were injured in the
attack, ranging in ages from 2 months to 10-years-old. Binyamin Zev Kahane
was the son of the late Rabbi Meir Kahane, who was murdered in New York
ten years ago.

Capt. Gad Marsha, 30, of Kiryat Arba, and Sgt.-Maj. Yonatan Vromolin, 29,
of Ben Shemen were killed on Thursday when Palestinian terrorists exploded
a roadside bomb near the Sufa crossing in southern Gaza, HA’ARETZ
reported. The explosion occurred on Thursday afternoon, about three
kilometers [1.8 miles] north of the crossing between Israel and the Gaza
Strip, five kilometers [3 miles] north of Israel’s border with Egypt. An
Israel Defense Force (IDF) squad discovered a bomb near the security fence
and called for Vromolin, a police sapper, who arrived with additional
soldiers. While Vromolin was dismantling the bomb, another bomb exploded
nearby. Hizb'Allah television reported that Islamic Jihad claimed
responsibility for the attack. Hamas has also claimed responsibility.

Fifteen people were wounded Thursday in a bombing in the heart of Tel
Aviv when a series of pipe bombs planted in the rear of a public bus
exploded. Shortly after all 30 of the elderly passengers had been
evacuated from the bus, a second explosion went off. A third bomb
apparently malfunctioned and did not explode fully. Police officials said
it was a miracle that so few were injured and that there were no
casualties.

:: SOME OF THE COMMUNITIES BARAK WANTS TO ABANDON: In the south of
Jerusalem: Hebron and Kiryat Arba. In the Hebron Hills region: Tene
Omarim, Shema, Eshkolot, Yatir, Sussiya, Maon, Karmel, Otniel, Negohot,
Beit Haggai, and Peni Hever. In the Binyamin region: Dolev, Talmon, Talmon
North, Nahliel, Halamish (Neveh Tsuf), and Ateret. North of Jerusalem:
Ofra, Beit El, Psagot, and Kochav Ya'acov. In the north Samaria region:
Yitzhar, Hermesh, Kadim, Ganim, Mevo Dotan, Einav, Shavei Shomron, Eilon
Moreh, Itamar, Bracha, Tapuah, and Migdalim. In the east Gush Etzion area
the communities possibly under threat are Nokdim, El David, Tekoa, Ma'aleh
Amos and Meitsad. The communities in the Jordan Valley reportedly
mentioned in the plan are Shdemot, Mehola, Bekaot, Roi, Hamra, Hemdat,
Mehorah, Gitit, Messua, Argemann, Yafit, Nativ Hagdud, Petzael, Tomer,
Yitav, Na'aran, and Na'ama. The northern Dead Sea has five communities
reportedly mentioned: Vered Jericho, Almog, Mitzpe Shalem, Kalia, Beit
Ha'arava. and the town of Ma'aleh Ephraim. In Gush Katif, the 15
settlements are: Rafiah Yam, Bnei Atzmon, Bedolah, Gan Or, Pe'at Sadeh,
Gadid, Neveh Dekalim, Ganei Tal, Katif, Netzer Hazani, Kfar Darom, Kfar
Yam, Slav, Tel Katifa, and Morag. Other Gaza Strip communities are
Netzarim, Dugit, Nisanit, and Alei Sinai.

:: PRISONER TALKS CONTINUE: Deputy Defense Minister Ephraim Sneh says that
the talks with Hizb'Allah over the release of the four captured Israelis
are continuing. He said that he had met with Austrian officials over the
past weeks in an effort to form another channel of communication with
Hizb'Allah. Austrian government officials say that they know that the
three Israeli soldiers are alive; Israel will not confirm claims of this
sort until it has first-hand proof. Sign the petition - see the link on
our Web page: http://www.tzemach.org.fyi/

:: JUDAIZING JERUSALEM: Mati Dan, head of the Ateret Cohanim association -
involved for years in reclaiming Jewish areas in the Old City of Jerusalem
- said that the group is increasing its efforts to acquire new properties
there - as the appropriate response to Barak's plans to divide the city.
Speaking with Arutz-7 today, Dan made an impassioned plea, asking for help
in purchasing a large building on the way to the Western Wall for
$900,000. "This will be the response of faith, the Zionist response, to
those who wish to weaken us," he said. "Part of the problem is that we
are getting involved in things that are not our job. It's our job now not
to worry about what they are talking about in Washington, but rather to
see how we can double the Jewish population in [the Moslem Quarter of] the
Old City. We can do it! We were always the minority, and it need not
bother us. The public is now called upon to act! [To paraphrase
Mattathias of Chanukah,] Who is for Jerusalem, to us!... Forget about
Barak; we must all ask ourselves how much time we have put into the cause
of increasing the Jewish presence in the Old City..." Ateret Cohanim's

Dear Friends of Israel:

We at Tzemach Institute and Fellowship Church believe that these are the
