Reagan, daughter of former President Ronald Reagan and actress Jane Wyman,
has suffered a recurrence of a deadly form of skin cancer and is undergoing
aggressive treatment, it was announced Tuesday. The Chicago-based Alzheimer's
Association, of which she is a national board member, said that Reagan, 60,
was in stable condition and responding as anticipated to chemotherapy
treatments that began on Dec. 11 at the John Wayne Cancer Institute in
California.``While her progress is still guarded she is a surprisingly strong
and resilient individual and has tolerated the therapy very well,'' the group
quoted her doctor, Steven O'Day, as saying.Reagan, whose father suffers from
Alzheimer's disease, was diag! nosed with malignant melanoma, the deadliest
form of skin cancer, in 1996. The disease had been in remission but doctors
discovered in October that it had returned and metastasized, the Alzheimer's
Association said. She will undergo at least six 21-day cycles of treatment at
the cancer facility, a part of St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica,
Calif., the announcement said.
