[Psalm 137.5-6] HIGHLIGHTS OF THIS WEEK: :: 400,000-500,000 ATTEND RALLY :: NO ORGANIZED JEWISH FUNDAMENTALIST CONSPIRACY :: CLINTON: ISRAEL MUST SHARE LAND :: OLD FRIENDS MEET IN GAZA :: PA/PLO EXECUTES TWO FOR ISRAELI COLLABORATION :: UPCOMING ISRAEL TRIP :: SYRIA AND IRAQ FORGE ALLIANCE :: IRAQ SAID TO HAVE DEPLOYED NEW, UPGRADED WEAPONS :: LEST YOU PUT YOUR HOPE IN SHARON ... :: THE REDEMPTION PROCESS AT THE CLIMAX OF THE AGES PROPHECY CONFERENCE Time is running out! :: 400,000-500,000 ATTEND RALLY: Between 400,000 and 500,000 people gathered for a mass rally Monday night opposing the division of Israel's capital. The theme of the rally was, "Jerusalem: I Pledge Allegiance." Some 1,500 buses made their way to Jerusalem’s Old City from around Israel while hundreds made their way on foot from as far as the Southern Hebron Hills areas, setting out on Monday morning. Throughout the rally, pictures and photographs of Jerusalem - such as the City of David antiquities, the Temple Mount, and the liberation of the city in 1967 - were screened on the walls of the Old City near the Tower of David and Jaffa Gate. Speakers included Chief Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau, former Supreme Court Chief Justice Moshe Landau, Avital Sharansky (wife of Yisrael B'Aliyah Party head Natan Sharansky), Chairman of Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations Ron Lauder, paratroopers such as Rabbi Yisrael Ariel who participated in the capture of Jerusalem in 1967, left-wing Rishon LeTzion Mayor Meir Nitzan, and Jerusalem Mayor Ehud Olmert. Olmert stated that while outgoing US President Bill Clinton is a friend of Israel, he is also the first US president who called for dividing Jerusalem. The rally is probably best described by the words of Rabbi Eliezer Waldman, Rosh Yeshiva, Yeshivat Kiryat Arba. In a commentary he stated, "There is no way to describe the image of a literal sea of Jews against the background of the ancient walls of the holy city. There was a silent communication between the stones and the people.... Never was there such a demonstration, not in numbers nor in the intensity of the emotions of faith, love and loyalty which the very word Jerusalem aroused within the people.... How pathetic Clinton has become when even after Arafat mocked him and scorned his proposal, he still grovels at the murderer's feet begging for even a hint of compromise. The lame duck president simply cannot relate to the reality of these 400,000 Jews who pledged allegiance to the unity of Jerusalem under exclusive Jewish sovereignty, echoing the voices of millions of Jews all over the world. He cannot understand that all of the Jewish people have an eternal holy bond with this city which can never be broken or compromised.... But when Jerusalem was put on the chopping block, all Jewish hearts began throbbing for Jerusalem. Our holy city is, indeed, the heart of our nation and for her we are all united in defense of our only homeland." [The entire commentary can be found at: http://nircollege.com/Jerusalem_eternal.htm]. Pictures of the event can be found at: http://www.gamla.org.il/english http://www.israelnationalnews.com/english/newspaper/news/demonstration.htm http://info.jpost.com/C001/Supplements/JerusalemRally/ :: NO ORGANIZED JEWISH FUNDAMENTALIST CONSPIRACY: Officials in the intelligence and security communities report they do not have any data pointing to an organized Jewish conspiracy to strike out against Islamic targets, a move that might led to increased hostility in the region. Officials however do not rule out the possibility that an attack might be perpetrated by lone persons, but not on a more organized level based on current intelligence information. Police have recently stated repeatedly that they fear reprisals by Jews against Arabs and the possibility of an attempted attack on the Temple Mount. :: CLINTON: ISRAEL MUST SHARE LAND: US President Clinton on Sunday told the people of Israel that their land also is the Palestinians' homeland and that "there is no choice but for you to divide this land into two states for two people." Addressing the people of Israel before a largely Jewish audience at the Jewish Policy Forum, a think tank on the Middle East, Clinton said "you have hardly had one day of peace and quiet since your state was created." He said "your dream of a homeland has come true," but when the Jewish people returned home beginning a century ago, they found "it was not vacant. You discovered that your land was also their land, the homeland of two peoples." And, Clinton went on, "the hard reality is that there is no choice but for you to divide this land into two states for two people." "Whether it happens today or after more bloodshed, it will happen," he said. Almost 4,000 years ago G-d declared to Abraham, "To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt as far as the great river, the river Euphrates" [Genesis 15.18]. Almost 3,500 years ago G-d declared to the nation of Israel, "And I will fix your boundary from the Red Sea to the sea of the Philistines, and from the wilderness to the River Euphrates" [Exodus 23.31a]. These covenants are forever and are with Israel alone. No other people have ever been promised the land of Israel by G-d. :: OLD FRIENDS MEET IN GAZA: PLO leader Yasser Arafat and former Israeli prime minister Shimon Peres made no apparent progress in meetings in Gaza Saturday, but further talks are planned. Arafat and Peres, now Israel's Regional Cooperation Minister, headed the negotiating teams as Israel and the Palestinians returned to the negotiating table, following up the last-minute peace bid by Clinton. The two sides decided to continue their talks in the next few days. Commentators pointed out that at this critical hour, Barak opted to place his nemesis Peres at the head of the negotiations, removing the most senior official to date, Foreign Minister Shlomo Ben-Ami, in the hope of securing a deal in the coming days. Meanwhile, the Supreme Council of the Fatah terror organization over the weekend called for a continuation of the Intifada. Following a meeting of the leadership of the terror organization headed by Arafat, it was decided that the daily attacks would continue. Among the senior PA/PLO officials to address the assembly was senior negotiator Dr. Saeb Erekat, who plays a pivotal role in the ongoing Oslo process between Israel and the PA/PLO. Erekat briefed the participants on the status of talks between Israel and the PA/PLO. :: PA/PLO EXECUTES TWO FOR ISRAELI COLLABORATION: The PA/PLO on Saturday executed two persons found guilty of having cooperated with Israeli security services. Majdi Makawi, 27, and Alam Bani Odeh, 25, were killed by firing squad after a PA/PLO court found them guilty as charged of having furnished Israeli security agents with information that led to the assassination of senior terrorist leaders. Senior PA/PLO officials stated the executions were to serve as a loud and clear message to anyone contemplating cooperating with Israeli security officials. PA/PLO Chairman Yassir Arafat personally signed the execution orders. Prime Minister Ehud Barak is coming under increasing criticism for what many are calling the abandonment of Arabs who in the past played a vital role in furnishing Israel’s intelligence network with information that led to the apprehension of many terrorists as well as the prevention of terror attacks. The PA/PLO-appointed mufti of the Temple Mount stated that one who betrays his people to assist the enemy must be sentenced to death in accordance to Islamic law. [Editor's note: Why, if the PLO is actually in negotiations for a "peace" agreement with Israel, does the PLO consider those that aid Israel "collaborators"?] :: UPCOMING ISRAEL TRIP: Fellowship Church [of which Tzemach News Service is a ministry] is sponsoring a trip to Israel November 4 - 16, 2001. The trip will cover areas in Judea and Samaria as well as the Galilee. Tentative areas to be visited include Ariel, Hebron, Kiryat Arba, Metulla, Megiddo, the Golan Heights, Beit She'an, Qumran and sites in and around Jerusalem. You will see the Bible come alive. We will meet and talk with people who live by faith in the land given to them by G-d. This trip promises to be even more awesome than the one we took in 1999! Due to the current situation in the Land, the schedule is still tentative. There are signs of change in the chronic hostility between Iraq and Syria, ever since Syrian dictator Hafez al-Assad died last year and passed on his 30-year mantle of oppression to his son, Bashar. According to the UPI, a Middle East intelligence source says Bashar "has definitely embraced" a radically new concept for Syria. During Hafez Assad's reign, tensions ran high between him and Saddam Hussein. Aggravations between the two included infighting over the waters of the Euphrates River, support for rival Kurdish factions, and vying for leadership of the Arab world. Hostility between the two peaked when Syria symbolically joined the Allied forces that expelled Iraqi forces from Kuwait in the 1991 Gulf War. But Bashar has demonstrated a radical reversal of the policies of his father and has given the go-ahead for close military cooperation with Iraq. He has clearly approved a new strategic doctrine of cooperation with Iraq, Syria's historic regional rival, as well as with Iran, to create a powerful regional block opposed to Israel and the United States. :: IRAQ SAID TO HAVE DEPLOYED NEW, UPGRADED WEAPONS: Iraq is said to have succeeded in deploying new and upgraded conventional weaponry despite sanctions imposed on the regime of President Saddam Hussein. The new weapons were reported to have been demonstrated at the Iraqi military parade on December 31. Western monitors reported the parade as being the biggest since the 1991 Gulf war, in which much of the nation's military was destroyed by Allied troops. They said about 1,000 tanks drove through the streets of Baghdad in the five-hour parade. Iraqi opposition sources said the large number of tanks demonstrates that the Saddam regime has managed to upgrade and acquire armored weapons. :: LEST YOU PUT YOUR HOPE IN SHARON ...: The campaign of Ariel Sharon for the premiership began in earnest Wednesday night. Sharon said that unity, leadership, and security have been absent during the tenure of Barak, whom he scolded for violating his promise not to negotiate under fire. However, he pledged to continue negotiating with the Palestinians in his administration in order to achieve true peace. "There is no true peace without concessions," Sharon said. "We will achieve peace based on compromise, but we will look out for our own interests and make sure the other side keeps its commitments." In an effort to appease religious MKs, whenever Sharon mentioned that he hoped he would win the election, he made sure to precede the word "victory" with the words "with God's help." Dear Friends of Israel: We at Tzemach Institute and Fellowship Church believe that these are the last days predicted millennia ago by the Hebrew prophets.
