To me, an artist is someone who excels in any field - they learn the 'trade' and the rules of the game, and then take them to new heights and create art. I believe a wood cabinet maker, an athlete, a chef, a mathematican - anyone can take their profession or love into the realm of art. I think you would be incapable of dumbing down what you write about, and I do think you have found your own voice. Sometimes it is grating, sometimes condescending, sometimes irritating - but when I have the time, I read what you have to say and think about your point of view. That might not be saying much to you, but there aren't a lot of people on the internet whom impress me with their communications abilities.
