-Caveat Lector-

There's a good deal more than disinterest--far from it--to the Republicans
reluctance to act where the meat industry is concerned. The meat industry
has fought for 100 YEARS successfully to keep real reforms from taking
place.
Whitley Strieber's recent guest on Dreamland was Eric Schlosser, (from
Whit's website) a contributing editor of the Atlantic Monthly and winner of
a National Magazine Award. He is also the author of the book _Fast Food
Nation_ which among other things exposes the corrupt relations between the
meat industry and our beloved government. Every clearly understood safety
measure, including bacterial analysis and INCLUDING the avoidance of feeding
animal parts/blood to cattle, chickens, etc--despite KNOWING that this
causes the Mad cow epidemic--is cavalierly flouted. The industry operates by
using illegal immigrant labor. That's why dear old Gee Dubya wants to be so
easy on illegal immigration: his butchering meat industry buddies, as well
as his oil buddies, want a limitless supply of cheap labor too afraid of the
law to fight back against conditions.

It's the Jan. 28th show.
