-Caveat Lector-

{{While these liberal paragons of virtue ate free to have
as many illegitimate children as they want as far as I am
concerned, why do they refuse to support them until and
unless forced to do so? At least out of their own pockets
as with Jesse. So whom did White think would support his?
Taxpayers, maybe? And ask yourself why Ashcroft did not try
to use this against him in the hearings. Compare and
contrast character.  AKE}}

Ronnie White's Skeletons | February 7, 2001

Judge Ronnie White, the African-American Missouri Supreme
Court judge, whose nomination to a federal court was blocked
by John Ashcroft, turns out to have things in his closet
that not even Ashcroft mentioned.

Columnist Tony Blankley discovered in the files of the
liberal St. Louis Post Dispatch that White fathered an out
of wedlock child and resisted paying support until a blood
test proved his paternity. The same paper also criticized
White for outspokenness from the bench that it said "can
border on vituperation."

And the paper reported that when White was chairman of a
committee in the State Legislature he gave his word to
colleagues he would not bring up an abortion bill he
opposed, then, with Republicans absent, brought the bill up
and it was defeated.

Lacking Firepower?

The U.S. Army is suffering a worldwide shortage of bullets.
This at a time when President Bush, having promised to
bolster the military, is balking at asking Congress for an
extra appropriation for the Pentagon.

A memo sent this week by the huge Army installation at Ft.
Hood Texas, which was uncovered by the Washington Times,
said there is such an ammunition shortage for Beretta 9
millimeter pistols that are training exercises for the
weapons have been canceled.

Party Poopers

You may have heard that the House voted unanimously Tuesday
to wish former President Reagan a happy birthday, but there
were in fact seven Democrats who voted present on the
resolution, thereby, in effect, abstaining.

They included such prominent California liberals as Lynne
Woolsey and Pete Stark, as well as Black Caucus luminaries
including Maxine Waters of California and Eddy Bernice
Johnson of Texas.

Punching the Ticket

You may have also been hearing that those punch-card voting
systems that caused such heartburn in Florida were used
across the country mostly in the largest, poorest and most
urban areas, with heavy black populations.

But a study by two researchers, Stephen Knack of Maryland
University and Martha Kropf of the University of Missouri in
Kansas City, have found just the opposite. After a
nationwide survey of demographic and voting machine data,
they conclude that it is non-poor Republican whites that are
most likely to use punch card systems.
