Pope inducts 'princes of the
church'
Cardinals attend a ceremony in St. Peter's Square at the Vatican February 21, 2001 Web posted at: 7:37 AM EST (1237 GMT) VATICAN CITY -- Pope John Paul II has presided over the largest-ever induction of cardinals into the Roman Catholic Church. Some quotes from the article:
Each cardinal recited a Latin
oath of eternal
fidelity to Christ, obedience to the pope, and promising never to reveal any secret entrusted to him that could bring shame upon the Church. What might these "secrets" be anyway? I guess honesty isn't always
the best policy.
The colour [red] signifies that
the cardinals are
required to "be ready to spill blood if need be to spread the faith." Whose blood? I noticed it doesn't say "their blood".
