I think it was really Queen Elizabeth (the first!) who wrote all those plays. But
because women authors couldn't publish back then she ordered one of her circle
(Marlowe? Bacon?) to publish them for her.
Just my 2c worth (hope ihaven't gotten my timelines mixed up and made a fool of
myself. My historical knowledge of this period is mainly based on the second season of
Blackadder).
